If petrol goes up much more people will choose to run at 50ish to save money.

If im doing a run, I always try to stick around 55 unless theres someone going even slower.

But then im rather poor.
Hear, hear, I have been doing no more than 50 from the summer, it was convient during summer as did not need to change my speed all the time because of limits changing and I did discover that I can get really low consumption, under 5 litres for 100km, which is some pretty nice MPG reading.

So during winter there are only few places where one can actually drive 65(well 63 to be precise), so I kept driving like a granny, put even vinyl to back of car telling that max speed is 80kph, so others don't blow their head gaskets so easily when hurrying to their coffins or wherever they have such a rush.

More than 1000 toy money units from average pay here, so can't say I'm rich either, one have to save where one can, if it means spending hour more on road, that is fine by me, also I tend to help others go past me best way I can as because I'm trying to get by with as little consumption as possible, it does not give me right to hold up the traffic, some flexibility helps on road, imo.

However I still think that there should be possibility to go faster by rules. Best would be to ditch all speed limits and introduce model of flow, where your actions as part of traffic are what counts, if you are not blending in, then you get fines, or something like that, should work better.

This is why i dotont like having my car in uni. Im in uni in swansea and theres horrible speed limits everywhere but at home (aberystwyth) we have roads that have 60mph speed limits where if you 60mph you should be in the WRC!

I much prefer driving at home. Its so much easier, stressless and more fun! The little back road to my house has a straight on it, i have heard of people hitting the wrong side of 100 mph up it :P and theres only just room to pass two cars

Not much better in The United Kingdom of the Netherlands Land.

YES THAT'S A 20 MPH ZONE IN A RURAL AREA.

MOAR examples.

Speed limit: 75. CLICK

Speed limit: 60. CLICK. Yes, that's a FIVE lane motorway. It was even reduced to 55 at the time Google took this shot.

They don't need a law for that, they just need to put those 50 signs, slowly more and more and more, then one day after all roads are limited to 50 they make a law that dual carriageways are to be 50 at max. If there is going to be any critism about signs they need only to pull safety card and probably majority in there too accepts new restriction of freedom to get illusion of safety.
We have this "slow death" principle here too.

Nearly all the unlimited Autobahns near me have been limited in the past few years :-(

There's a great 3 lane motorway from Bonn to Cologne (the first ever Autobahn in fact) which we used to use for high speed runs (late at night, no traffic of course ;-)) My personal "record" was 225 kph in an Audi 100 V6, as a passenger it was 275 kph in a 944 Turbo.

Unfortunately in 2001 the nearby residents, who bought cheap land near the Autobahn in the seventies and eighties, cheap of course because it was right next to the Autobahn, decided that motorway noise was bad for their health and safety. So now this superb stretch of road has a 100kph limit right in the middle of the fastest stretch. It makes me sick ...

Another fantastic stretch of road, from Frankfurt to Cologne, three lanes all the way, beautiful scenery, fantastic tarmac, completely unlimited 10 years ago is now pockmarked with 100 kph and 130 kph limits.

Give it another 10 years at most, and Germany will have a blanket speed limit on motorways for political reasons. By that time it won't make much difference though. Already, most German motorways are limited, and the proportion of limited stretches is increasing year by year.

Hooray for Poland. They recently upped their max. limit to 150kph on selected roads.

Cheers

Poland is not too far from Ukraine, right? So I think that some road rip to get few 300's back from Ukraine and travel via Poland would make very nice event, I believe we could make book and tv-series about that one too :D

Lol similiar idiots are around here too.. There is this Motor stadium built in 1986 in the middle of woods, built on top of old landfill site of closed down copper mine so the area is unusable as such for anything else without some major land change. Well the land areas around that place were cheap and people started to buy those for their summer houses. Now these summer house owners complain that the Motopark needs to be shut down because of the noise. Motopark was there before the summer residents, these idiots just bought cheap land and then complain about the track.

Stupid people, some people even bought the cheap land area near the Helsinki-Vantaa airport and now complain about the air traffic noise... :D In the case of the main airport of Finland they can complain all they want though but it just shows how stupid people can be.

I'm sure there was some idea in the UK of making national speed limit roads into 50 mph limits.
Glad that hasn't happened yet !

Seen an article in a magazine a year or 2 ago about a village that did away with signs and limits in the hope of making drivers interact more at junctions etc. with eye contact and the like.
Link:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/spi ... 47,00.html

Think that would be a great idea my self.

I've just come back from a good drive about some nice roads. My favorate type of road is a nice twisty country road, wide enough to happily pass oncoming traffic bt tight enough to keep you on your toes. also with them being national speed limit and with it being too twisty to reach 60, it allows you to drive without the fear of getting caught speeding.

I've done the Intitute of Advanced Motorists advanced driving test (which i found was a really rewarding experience!!) and dont break the speed limits but do still feel that roads are limited rather stupidly in places etc. etc.

I'm generally a pretty law abiding motorist...but if I feel a speed limit is suitably retarded (and those 50s are usually the worst offenders), I just ignore it. I picked up three points 3 and a half years ago, so it can't be that risky...

I very rarely drive properly quickly, but I have access to a few cars which can, should the need arise, shuffle along a little. The V70R is limited to 155, and the 740 (with old engine) allegedly hit the rev limiter in 5th with the GPS showing 165mph. Even the 343 will put the needle well beyond the end of the scale (120mph), and there used to be a suitably shaky pic floating about of the same engine in my 360 propelling it to an indicated 125-130mph. Not that I endorse that kinda thing...or that it happens more than once in a blue moon. Going into three figures more than once in a while is asking for trouble...

It's not mine, but I've driven it from time to time. The "2009 engine" was a standard B230 turbo with bolt-ons (Garrett T3/T4 hybrid, cam, 3" turboback exhaust, 630cc injectors, Megaquirt EFI, etc), making 300bhp / 300lbft at 20psi. It hit the rev limiter in 5th...it'd have gone faster with a taller diff. ;)
Here's a quick Youtube vid... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st-cMVZbAPw

The new engine...haha...well...have you seen the "Hedberg" video...? ;)
