I reckon a B230E engined 740 is as quick as a 360GLT, the 16v's and Turbos are obviously quicker. 960's, even in auto 2.5 form are as quick as the 16v's and in 3.0 form are as quick as the Turbos. The V6's in early B28 form are as quick as the 16v's and the later B280E's are as quick as 940 Turbos on the road, although will lose at the drag strip due to being auto.

Basically any 740 with 130bhp or more or any 760/top spec 940/960 (they are heavier) with 150bhp or more will be quicker than a standard 360GLT.

Yeah, I was about to say that a B230E should be quicker than (or as quick as, at least) a 360 GLT. Just avoid the B200s.

cheers

... and B230Fs with a slush box. The rest sound good ... I hope when I get around to buying one, the prices haven't doubled.

Having spent years saying I'm not keen on 700's, the last few posts have made me realise this is an untruth... :D

Some things get better when they get older :-) I hated them when they were new.

They weight a ton more than 300, when looking weight and power, let that be torque or hp, we can see that they are not very fast.

960 2.5 auto (170bhp/1550KG) 1/4 mile drag time = 17.3secs.

360GLE man (90bhp/1100Kg) = 18.7secs (with rear seats, sub, parcel shelf, spare wheel etc removed)
360GLT man (112bhp/ 1150Kg) = 18.4 secs

343RS man (140bhp/1000kg) = 17.0secs.

These are all times taken from actual runs at Santa Pod by myself, SteveP and Foggy. The slusher 960 despite being nearly half a tonne heavier would kill the 360GLE on the road and will keep with the 343RS; the only reason it lost at the track was due to it being auto. By the same token my 760GLE with the B280E and auto box would keep with a 940turbo running 10psi on the road, but lose by half a second on the track.

7/900's aren't fast, but neither are any stock 300's - generally any non cat injected 2.3 cars or more will be faster than any 300.

True - especially so for the FWD stuff! That's basically their only use for fun driving ;)

Although I actually ran an 18.3 if we're being picky - absolutely diabolical imo for a 2.0 in a light car, but since Pete ran an 18.4 too atleast we had some sort of consistency. Ie. They're all slow

Hmm, how come I got 16.8s with my 360GL, is that tall diff somehow better for acceleration? Or is it that rust weight less than steel?
