B14 Carb Up/Downgrade not needed! Pg2.
Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade?
No need to rely on book of lies, there is information at technical section, green books, check engine section, you should find how to adjust it, but if going to book of lies, get one branded as Carburettors, it has a lot of useful info and it makes you understand what and why you are doing, that makes adjusting carb a lot easier than adjusting 'blind'.
I got one for around 15 pounds delivered from UK, there was several of those shops along to uk, surely any bookstore will probably have those rather affordable price and it has really a lot of different carbs.

.
Sounds like a handy reference to have if it covers a lot of carbs.
*edit - is this it?

Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade?
Is this a bad time to mention my at least 60mpg 106 diesel?
and you said I was heading in the wrong direction.

The Dude I know used to laugh at men wearing ties in FWD French diesels.
Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade?
Luckily I don't have a tie and I do get ~80MPG with FWD french crap diesel
VND, you will get a lot better MPG if you can limit your speed to 50mph, that extra 10mph will cut you down by some 10mpg (or maybe even more?) I think.
Is that 5 speed? That should get bit less penalty, 4 speed would get quite high impact.
When everything else fails, then it is time to stuck old sponge under loud pedal, silly thing, but it does cut few % no matter how mpg minded your driving is.

Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade?
It's a 5 speed.
I stick at 60mph on a run as the speedo over reads by about 7 mph, which brings us back to around the supposed magic 55.
Maybe it's the town driving that's killing it.
No way around those trips other than leaving it at home.

i did a 150 mile run once going 80 90% of the way - used less fuel than going at 60 on the same run. like a 10ers lessvolvosneverdie wrote:It's a 5 speed.

Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade?
There are multiple reasons for that, however speed is not one of reasons why your car consumed less at 80mph than 60mph.
Smoother throttle usage, wind, driving in general becomes smoother, when driving faster drivers look further ahead and predicting more, fill up accuracy is one thing too, first click method can make really large errors, sometimes is your lucky day and pump gives more than it should, temperature, rain, other traffic, it is really difficult to get realiable and constant mpg reading, there are so many variables, especially difficult when not doing full tanks.
Anyway, if only variable is speed, consumption goes up all the time starting from some 35mph which you can still drive at 5th gear, every mph more decreases mpg, that is if everything else is kept as same.
This means that if driving in conditions and way 80mph run was driven, 60mph run will give lot better mpg.
VND do you have hills on your area? If traffic allows feathering the throttle at uphills and running downhills at neutral should give you a lot better mpg than driving normally. I think that longest downhill coasting I have done has been around 2 miles, engine switched off naturally, speed at start was something like 35mph because of uphill.
There is of course no point starting such driving if there is some fault at your motor's adjustments, but it is not too difficult to get that 10mpg better than factory spec figures when everything is set ok.
You said that most of your tank was highway driving, just think about how bad mpg it would need to be at city to get so little miles out from your car, if you average something like 20mpg, then with 20% of being city driving while 80% being highway at 40-45mpg (just careful estimate, I think that with nicely driven @50mph you should get 50mpg), you would need to have mpg of 5 or something as silly to get such bad fuel economy.
Rich running can be one of the reasons, but how much does that affect to fuel economy? Can't be 50%?

Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade NOT NEEDED. Lol
Ok, so it looks like someone (our lass) reset the trip meter (which I was using to track mpg) as a joke. And I never noticed.
Just topped up and:
Done 283 miles on the tank.
Filled up with 36.13 litres (so the lights coming on a bit early)
The grand total:
35.61 Mpgs.
Which is good!

Not bad at all then.
Re: B14 Carb Up/Downgrade not needed! Pg2.
Tough one, nobody had kind of possibilty even remotely on their minds
I think that you can get lot better mileage, let's have a little challenge, improve mileage 20% for next tank? Should be doable, imo.
Oooooo, nice, Firefox crashed all of sudden, but restart did bring back text that I had typed already, that is what I call impressive
