You need to put V3M and the web address on her! You never know how much coverage this race will get, and it could be a great way to advertise the site
Especially if you do well, you could get several other owners to check us out

I'll take the petrol tank off your hands if your willing to post it, I had a little twinge of sadness when you said you were banger racing it, but its fitting that its going out beating the s**t out of assorted vauxhalls and fords, I hope sausage causes some proper damage

ive got no problem wit you mangling a 340
well i did banger a couple of 240s a while back , just make sure you take anything rare , or sellable out to keep everyone happy
i took an r sport dash out of a 240 i bangered ,- i dont think that would have gone down to well !!!
Mind u some clutz chucked it away while i was in uni
the 340 will last longer - the 2 litre 360 , with the bigger engine , right near the front , can only do about 2-3 races before , engine bits would start flying off .

May I make a few parts requests when you're done with it? ...If they're still in one piece! I'll make a suitable donation to CIN in exhange...sound fair?
I'll have to have a think about exactly what nearer the time, but I'm thinking I'll need a carb (and a few connected pieces) and a pair of rear shocks.
Does that sound appealing in principle?
cheers
James

Be very careful of the front crossmember - do not run over any debris as tis could push the front crossmember back and therefore shift the engine mounts.
Don't laugh, I wrote off a Mk1 (my mums) this way when I ran over an exhaust silencer that fell off the car in front whilst on the motorway. It shoved the crossmember back 3" and severely knackered the prop and gearbox.

Well.......
I only did 2 races and sausage ended up being straight enough to warrent being "saved" for another meeting. 340s dont half handle funny, but with the rear tyres let down a little it was easy to power slide the little volvo round the slippery tarmac track. I got alot of spectator support as I was the only car out there that wasnt a bluebird or a cavalier, and although I spent much of the time being spun (when 340s spin, they REALLY spin) I got stuck in and took out the odd bluey. The only damage was the rear, the back was knocked in and the drivers side rear wheel ended up twisted at a funny angle meaning that as I put my foot down the rear would kick out and i'd slide with wheels spinning half way up the straight. Im going to try and post some pics. Theyre not very good but there are some better "on track" ones to follow.
How do you post pics from your hard drive??? arrgh!
I can keep hold of the tank for anyone who wants it but the carb e.t.c will have to wait until the car is written off. Good chance the rear shocks wont be usable though. I dont want anything for the bits, but like you say you can donate what you want to CIN!
Overall, I really rate 340s, theyre rugged little cars....anyone got any scrap 340s on their drive?......

email them to me at
dave.kirkham@gmail.com and I'll put them online for you if you want, or you could use a site like imageshack or photobucket to host them and link them on here

Thanks for the offer Tim. I think I'll need a carb before then, but who knows?
Sounds like you did ok!
If you want to post pictures, you need to host them on the internet first. Various people use free services, and Imageshack seems to be a good choice.
cheers

LOL, that's only a light dent or two, nothing a little panel beating won't sort, maybe the boot is slightly out of adjustment now though! Sounds like and looks like you had fun, and at least it was for a good cause, rather than wrecking a decent motor for nothing, as I remember Sausage needing a lot of welding.

Cheers for putting those pics up!
I did two races and the last race of the day was the destruction derby, I didnt think the damage was bad enough to warrant killing the car and he ran and drove beautifully so Sausage has had a reprieve until the next meeting. If the damage had been worse then I think I would have finished him off in the DD.
Yes there was quite alot of rust! Pity as the car looked fantastic when I picked him up from Gavin. Alot more rust I hadnt seen dropped out after the car had taken a knock or two. I think it was a classic case of a car cherished by its owners, polished every sunday, but garaged after it had been raining. Condensation builds up inside the body sections and rots them out. A mechanic once told me. Never garage a wet car!
Note very rare original volvo passenger door foolproof childlocks

Never garage a wet car, really? Anyone else heard this one?
Well done with the race
