I am very sorry to hear your story Tuba!
Forget that car and try to find another Volvo 340 (or 360!). If was you, I would buy a 360 in Germany, they are very cheap (because the taxes there for a 2.0 engine without catalyser are very high > nobody want that car... )

Well, that would have been a lot harder than what I didDuvel78 wrote:Forget that car and try to find another Volvo 340 (or 360!).

I found a perfectly kept 1994 Volvo 460 DL (1.8i) with a few nice extras and perfect looks, so I decided to buy it instead. It's a campaign model (called "spirit"), and thus features a lot of nice details - such as heated front seats and coloured bumpers and mirrors.
I won't stop loving the 300-series, and I won't stop wanting one either, but for now I'll be driving a 460. When I get to a point in life where I can afford a second car, I'm pretty sure it'll be a 340 - if I live in a place where I can restore one (i.e. a house with a nice garage and the right tools).
The 460 I've found is in near mint condition, with very little rust - the rear bumper has a bit of surface rust on the inner side, and that's it. The engine purrs nicely, which makes sense considering it's only done 131.000 km in 10 years. It drives like a 460 should, and I'll even get an extra set of tyres. Right now it's running on Continental EcoContact CPs (175/70R14) on steel rims, but there's a set of original volvo alloys with Goodyear Eagle NCT5's (195/50R15) on as well. It needs an anti-rust treatment this autumn, but that's the only maintenance it'll need for about 10.000 km. It's had an anti-rust treatment every two years since 1994, so the good condition it's in is hardly surprising. I'm paying 46.500 Kr (~6200 Eur) for it, the last 1500 Kr being the registration fee for license plates.
Hopefully I'll be driving it back home tomorrow, and when I'm home I'll take a few pics so you can see it

Don't expect any pics before sunday, though, saturday is my wedding anniversary, so I'll be spending the entire day with my wife

that is a LOT of money for a 460! blimey...
my dad just wrote off his 440, which was also in mint condition. it had 75000 on the clock (miles), and was a '93 k reg.. the value of it (which the insurance company paid us) is £800 (or €1200ish). also a 1.8, but not with quite so many extras.. but what a cost difference!!
incidentally, the 400s are more sporty to drive, but i think the cockpit feels a little cramped - just my personal taste i guess.. im a big lad and i like my space

I've managed to get one of the pictures I've taken online so far:
http://gallery.arkolog.dk/Diverse/dscn1085.jpg
More will follow later - it might not be a 300, but it's still a Volvo
