classicswede wrote:As to the car it could be repaired I think but the cost would out weigh the price of replacment.
That is what i meant when i say it can't be repaired.
the body is twisted, rear door wouldn't open despite there being no damage to it, a few of the mounts for the suspension have been torn of the chassis, with the damage being done to the chassis, not the mounts. the panel damage alone would cost close to the value of the car to fix, before even begining on the mechanical side of things.

Spoke to the fuckwit today on the phone, he's unlicensed and unemployed, no cash to pay, the car was being loaned to his mom, a pensioner who can't afford to pay and didn't let the fuckwit take the car, by a bloke that was in the process of buying the car  , i haven't been able to speak to him yet, but it appears the car might not legally even belong to him anyway. noone has insurance but me, which is only third party property, it covers me for up to $3k if i'm not at fault, but only if the at fault party won't pay up, so i have to get quotes and send them letters of demand and give them time to pay. So whilst it looks like I will get payed, it won't be for a long time. and first i have to pay to get the car towed to people to do quotes ect which means more money out of my pocket...

I have given the guy 1 week to rustle up some cash before i begin the legal procedings. explaining to him that if do start legal proceedings it will just cost him more in the end and he will have the insurance company chasing him up.

Stupid uninsured drivers :( Sounds like a very bad series of events leading up to the crash.

If only the police would target people like that rather than people doing 10 mph over the speed limit. Oh yeah, you can't check that with an automated camera while you fill out paperwork at the office, and your average uninsured driver is less likely to be able to afford the nasty fine with which to fill the governments coffers

Man...what a bad few days!

If you do come to part it out, bear in mind that AC parts are in demand in Europe.

And I'm sure a certain someone would want a mk2 spoiler (it looks like a mk2 spoiler, but it's hard to tell from that angle...)

The insurance called me today and said that it is a writeoff, surprise surprise, and they will call back within 48 hours to let me know the payout amount...

If aussie insurance companies are anything like british ones - it pays to negotiate hard on an older car. They're likely to offer you a pretty low valuation initially - refuse it. Build up a library of cars on autotrader, ebay etc which you can refer to to compare your car with.

that's what i though i'd have to do ronnie, with my insurance, which was only third party property damage, but allowed up to $3k payout if your vehicle was damaged and you aren't at fault. that $3k includes any expenses occured by me, ie towing, they rang me and told me the towing is about 200, they will confirm that by monday, so i have $2800 left on my policy, and their first offer was $2700!!! i'm not going to argue. 8)

I can also buy the wreck back if i want to for $500, if i do that, then i get to keep the rego that's on it, about 8-9 months worth, so i can cancel that and get about $3-400 back, and have a 360 for spares or to part out should i buy something else.

Not good at all, I hope the idiot gets the book thrown at him, I assume the Police there take such matters really seriously anyway, even more so in this case due to the accident and damage caused. It's lucky no one was in the car, at least it's just him and metal at the end of the day. The metal is replaceable to a point, it's never the same, but at least the payout seems to help a bit.

Sorry to hear about you're friend as well. Lets hope things improve for you.

There is definately another 300 in my future, rwd hatches are pretty hard to come by here in aus, i'm just not happy with the conditions of the ones that are for sale right now, so i might need to wait to find the right one, i have no idea at this stage what car i will end up with when the payout comes thru. :?
