Mk2.1 - there seems to be a lower front valance of sorts, no discernable line denoting a seperate nose-cone, later style wheels (with mk3 centre caps for some reason!), large wing mirrors and just a general overall hunch that it's an early mk2.

I do not subscribe to the different Mark theory, there were differences every year.

The nose cone change around 81-82, short bumpers are mostly 1980. Wing indicators did not disappear until the last bumpers came in with the indicator built in (86).

I find it very hard to tell on this photo to be honest, I would be tending towards the nose cone type, the angles just look like it, with the thinner nose, and no upwards angle on the bonnet.

Going on the bad pics and the date of first registration I would say it is a late MY'81.
Going the Mk way it is a late MkII, MkI going from 76-78 and MkII from 79-81.

Oooooh...super-nerdy fun!

I'm pretty sure it's a 1981 car (so the last "nosecone" year). The top of the front corners are too rounded to be a mk2....and the bonnet is too flat. The front is just the wrong shape to be a mk2.

If we're being picky, 1981 front bumpers are unique...they look the same, but they're curved, not pointed like 82-85 ones. Of course you've also got plain (DL/DLS) and chrome (GL/GLS) inserts. I better not run into anything, or I'm never going to find a replacement bumper!

cheers
