I fitted this leather interior, I bought it exactly as it now is in the car.
All I did was cleaning and re-oiling it.

The difference between hatch- and saloon interiors is only in the rear bench, which can fold over in the hatch, and (regrettably) not in the saloon. ('bout time I get some pics of my own car out here).

Those rear head rests were an option, in the Netherlands at least, and are quite rare, especially for leather interiors.
360GLS, 220k, soon to be fitted with double carbs, and a 1993 850GLT.

Having fitted rear head restraints and observed the slightly dubious way in which they have to mount (involving weakening the backrest), I'd be very suprised if it was offered from the factory on hatchbacks...all the ones we see are probably custom jobs.

Nope, in Holland they actually were an option.
I've just checked my options brochure and it says the open and closed rear headrests were an option on Sedan, 3 and 5 door models.
The open ones costed Fl 120,- (+/-€ 55,-), the closed ones were Fl 195,- (+/-€ 90,-).

doh..

you'd think they'd be a more common option for leather cars, as the owners clearly want luxury??

Well you learn something every day!

I'd love to know how Volvo got around the problem of the reinforcing bar in thebackrest of hatchback models.
