it does look like just the leafspring

just to check.. get the rear axle on straight tarmac or something similar, then measure this L + R

if it measures the same, its the leafspring and then i would replace them by pair. haven't seen this before on a 300 though :o

No, no double springs for me, thought i was missing a leaf.

Your right the drivers side i.e the side sitting lower doesn't seem to have much curve and i think thats whats causing the problem.
Although the rear hanger looks wonky taking a tape measure fron the axle to the bottom bolt on either side gives a different measurement of about 2mm so i don't think it's that, i reckon the spring has had it.

Oh well more expense

Do you mean if it measures the same, or was that meant to be different?

Sounds about my luck then

that measures if the axle is still straight; that could potentially mess up how the leafspring sits too, oh yeah. make sure that L+R is exactly the same tire pressure :D

if the measurements from axle to the gorund L + R are the same the axle is straight and you need a new pair of leafsprings
if those measurements are off it's the axle

Ah i see now. Well i've just moved it to a flatter part of the drive and guess what, it's now sitting somewhere more like level.

I did just pump the tyres up aswell while waiting for the reply :D

Edit: The measurement is the same on the axle from L-R.

If you need a set of springs, I should have a very good pair available in a few weeks time.

cheers

Man, it is those grapes, extra weight on that side when weather is damp as them grapes might soak water in and gain quite bit of weight

Ok, time for a daft question...when you did the blocks, I take it you didn't play with the shackle bolts at all? I'm just wondering if an extreme amount of preload on the bushes could be holding the spring in tension. It's a trick the yanks like to play on their old leaf-sprung cars to stiffen the rear up a bit. It sounds highly unlikely to me, but I thought I best ask!

cheers

When i read that i genuinely laughed out loud

Right just to clear things up, no i didn't mess with the shackle (hanger) bolts at all, i just removed the driveshafts then took the bolts out of the spring plates, fitted the blocks and bolted it back up again.

Sometimes i do think i'm just a little bit retarded, well from this pic, clearly that lean is not right am i correct?:

Bearing in mind where it was on the drive, the floor was only out by 1/2" or so, but the suspension difference from side to side was almost 2,1/2". I had already jacked up both sides and lowered it back down, plus jumped it up and down on the springs to maybe try and settle them a bit, but it still stayed wonky. So i moved it to a flatter area and it seemed to square itself up. The shocks that would not return to extended position over night, then decided to work, so i reinstalled them and took it out for a drive.

Everything seems fine, not a dodgy angle in sight.

So after asking for all the help, removing shocks, replacing them, putting it all back together it seems as if there was never a problem!

This is kind of how i feel

when your front right wheel is in a ditch or your left front wheel is on a bump when you park it there, that could explain everything :D
