I almost put, "not a dodgy angle in sight, bar the number plate" wish i had now.

Sadly theres a whopping great big hole from tin worm where the screw goes through so nothing to attatch it to, may have to bust out the double sided sticky tape.

I see it as a breathing hole for all the imagrant stowaways who i often find hiding in my boot

Yeah i'm just glad it's all sorted now aswell. I notice a lot more axle tramping now though and general bouncyness, but i suppose thats to be expected.

Quick fix, take tin can and cut good 2x2 piece out from it, take one screw or bolt and nut, put piece of tin can to boot side and scew/bolt trough that.

For long term solution angle grinder and some new sheet metal is required.

They say you don't miss something until it's gone, this i've found out to be true as after almost 2wks of intermitent web access, numerous calls to BT and a couple of visits by baffled BT engineers i "think" i finally have proper interned nets.

Nothing exciting been going on in my time away except shock horror a fully reliable 340, however not without it's silly little faults still putting a downer on things.

Firstly it has develpoed an annoyingly squeeky O/S/F brake, new pads and discs within a few thousand miles so, any ideas on a solution, i'm thinking the back of the pads just need a bit of copper grease?

Next up is the dashboard problems, it has an ongoing fuelgauge issue, i.e it's stuck on full, i presume thats a dodgy sender? Now the rev counter has joined in on the fun. It will register idle on start up, then when you drive away it will go to about 2k then no futher. More often than not it just won't register or will read around 250rpm no matter what revs i'm doing, again any ideas or is the dash worth nothing but scrapping and replacing?

Oh and last night i filled it with petrol, which is now a regular occurance as i don't want to run out, and when i returned it was dripping from one of the pipes, i've already replaced all of these in the time i've had it, crappy quality parts  On that note what do you guys with Valvers get MPG wise? I don't want to risk it so fill up when the odometer gets around 180miles.

Now for wasting your time with my drivel i shall put some close up pics of my adjusted boot badge as i did it a while ago but haven't shown any close ups yet.

This was one thought, but then i thought against it

I settled for this which had been the plan since i got the car but in it's unlowered state i felt it to be unworthy:

Yes that is glow in the dark paint :P

Lastly as a little bonus, check my whip out in last months Retro Cars,i was pretty suprised to see it as there were hundreds of top quality motors there, so i was quite happy with that, plus it's not the size that counts

Heres to many more trouble free miles :340:

Well i shouldn't open my mouth really should i

Driving home from dropping the bird off at work, stopped at my local shops to buy some fags. On returning to the car i notice some coolant on the floor. Pop the bonnet and the top hose has a pin prick sized hole rubbed through from the alternator adjuster. I knew it rubbed on here so i'd already put a small rubber tophat looking thing on it to prevent rubbing, but i found it had rubbed through that and the pipe.

Oh well the coolant bottle was still half full so it couldn't have been split for long and the temperature hadn't gone up so i topped it up and drove it home.
Now it's a Sunday lunchtime and as i don't have a spare tophose i had to try and get a sleve from somewhere so down to Wickes i went.
Nothing in 1,1/4 (32mm) so i headed to the mahooosive B+Q. I checked the plumbing section and again nothing in that size, so i wandered around the shop looking for something else i could utilise.

Then i found these

Image

Thats handy, 32mm adjustable table legs, for the princely sum of £1.95. So i took it home and did this to it:

Image

Then i filed the it down so it had a nice bevel with no sharp edges, next i attacked the top hose with a big kitchen knife and cut it in half where the offending hole was.

Image

Here you can see the rubber boot which has rubbed through making the hole:

Image

Next it was just a matter of slipping on a couple of jubilee clips on each end of hose, fitting my newly made sleeve, doing the jubilees up, add the little coolant it missed, run it up to temp with cap off, jobs a good un 8)

Quite sad or usefully knowledgeable, i'd go with the later, i can never emember measurements at work when i've only just looked at the tape

Oh and on a side note some thieving scumbag stole my grapes on Saturday night

Yes it's true they are gone, i was most distressed, felt a bit like automotive rape

Hmm to continue the fruit theme or move onto pastuers new? I was considering one of my mangled bent valves from the rebuild, drilled at the end and tied on with wire, but i would genuinely be annoyed if that got nicked

This looks rather familiar, I have similar in yank tank, there is bit stupid way how heater hoses run, right next to exhaust manifold, so it was no wonder that one day there were similar hole to yours. Had some supports for light summer shelter thing and got piece from there, couple of clips and it is better than new. Piece of metal wire to keep it away from exhaust manifold and that was sorted.

Solution works and yank tank has huge amount of extra hose, but of course hole happens to be around middle, so there is no way I'm going to throw away that amount of good hose, little bodge will be enough for that
