At Tuesday my home weather station did record -18C already (forecast did not report such cold for Tuesday), however day after that it did broke down, must repair it tomorrow.

Wind is one horrible thing, even minor freeze will feel really cold when there is bit of wind and damp weather, like earlier at week, when there was very strong wind and humidity around 100%.

Today had to attach some roof cargo and there was quite strong wind, was really a sensation when snow melt to fingers and wind made it froze again

About same amount here, might be even bit less as there has not been new one recently and snow has odd habit of compressing over time, so what was fluffy snow becomes thicker and more solid.

-16C now, falling 1C per hour, estimates are around -20C, but might get even colder.

Still strong wind and very damp weather (74% humidity) = bastardly cold

Currently November average temp is -4C, however I lost two cold days as sensor wiring failed, cat or bird is responsible from that. Anyway long time average is -2.2C so it is bit colder than it should be, they say that following few days will make November all time record lows, but you never know about those, they talk lot of other odd things.

Last year November had -0.9C average temp and our main met office told winter will be really warm and southern finland will probably not have snow at all at winter, well in reality there was more snow and more cold than a decade, but they are pro forecasters, they probably know things better

For this winter I have seen forecasts of worst in 1000 years, lot warmer than usual, lot colder than usual, but none has picked average as base of their forecasts, all I know is that sea climate is still weaker than mainland climate and it means hotter and colder, depending if it is summer or winter, so I guess winter will not be easy one for us, must be easy living for those who live at area where is no such winter as we have, but for some odd reason those areas seem to be bit restless, which is odd as life would be so easy compared to our daily heating problems.

Speaking of that, I started fire at 9am and it is still running hot, just need to add fuel to the flames so that I can get house temperature up before it gets really cold, having been on road again, house temperature were bit over 0 when I came back yesterday, takes quite bit of firewood to get temp high again as all walls and floors are still cold.

Finally snow here in Donny, near the equator!

Image

Not been out in the ovlov, just the transit, it is rear wheel drive after all (and they don't grit our little bit of backroad :D)

Image

Although, if it stays like this for long I'm sure I won't be able to resist it! It's just a pity they put that salty crap down on the roads. It's so flat around here there's no need for it really.

You think snow is bad?

I woke up to another reality this morning:
Image

So cold that snapped spring from this :?
Image

Average temperature of last 24 hours is -18.8C, which does include yesterday afternoon's -12.6C that feels rather warm now.

Forecast was -19C for night and -17C for day, I believe that they made slight mistake.

These kind of temps are now month too early, should be end of December that we have such temperatures, not always by then, most commonly January-February have this much freezing in the air.

Poor cats, too afraid to come in, but their water bowl will freeze almost instantly, even I have put small heater under it :?

-8 here last night, things are starting to get interesting...weather forcast is for it to continue like this for a some time with blizzards Wednesday. Nothing like where jtbo is but for here this is exceptional at this time of year. Sounds like it's exceptional weather for there too? Maybe this is the beginning of a little ice-age :P and the gulf stream and/or jet stream is altering and the winters will be like this for a few years. On top of the snow we had at the beginning of the year this weather's certainly breaking records fast. A mate who used to work for the met office reckons the gulf stream is being affected by the melting ice at the north pole. Not sure how this affects the jet stream position (which is causing our cold weather) but I suppose everything has knock on effect.

Thing is simple, everything has to do with everything and we don't know everything, so even best of best can only guess, no matter how strongly they state their opinions as truth, it is only a lame guess as our current knowledge is rather limited from subject

Our cold here is because we are between sea and landmass, two climate types are constantly battling from domination and thus we get different kind of weather, now we are 'enjoying' from Siberian Arctic breeze, that has been stronger than sea climate for bit under a year now.

If you are afraid of mini ice age, then this might spook you, it is known that before ice age there are huge jumps up and down at average temps and weather extremes are going almost berserk. Having midwinter temps at end of November does classify as weather extreme in my books, so does record heat at summer, but still we know too little to say anything certain, what is certain is that bloodsuckers are going to use it as leverage to pull our money from our pockets like has been seen before

All I know from ice is that, imo it has taken sharper turns than what it has done on earlier years, also timing of peak was later than before, so as ever going progress, there have been changes like have been millions of years, which we know very little about.
http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/seaice/ext ... tent_L.png

Anyway there might be some relation or there might be none, sun has certainly some effect as it warmed weather here by 6 degrees in just under 3 hours that it has been up, soon going down again and if there is no clouds, then I guess it is time to freeze really well again

I have read some science persons claiming that weather is affected even by what is outside of our planet, pretty challenging to forecast so maybe that is why forecasts seem sometimes be so much off, there is more variables than people know, even they think they know it all.

Good thing that I put some extra insulation to roof recently, can't feel that cold inside at all, +5 or -25C seem to have no effect

First November snow here, for as long as I can remember!

Am supposed to be driving to Munich tomorrow, 560km trip each way, weather forecast is bleak - lots of snowfall all the way, and there are several hilly stretches to cross. Am hoping a 22-year old Volvo with winter tyres will do a better job of getting me there than a cheap airline or the Deutsche Bahn :?

The salt will be shooting through the yet-unwelded holes in my sills, which is a bit of a worry ... They'll definitely need a good pressure hose clean afterwards.

Cheers
