What's the big deal? Talk about jumping down someones throat! jcred22 the replies don't speak for all of us on here mate.

He say's he's gonna thrash it, so what? I do with mine (when it's in one piece ). Thrash doesn't mean purposely destroy it. Yeah it may break, but anything does when given some stick. Nothing wrong with enjoying your car. As for the Escort comments, loads of them are gp4 spec anyway, and no-one minds. That actually makes them better, and it's safe to say they get a good kicking!

Fuck the interior, they're rubbish inside and it's all fit for the bin anyway IMO. Mine will head this way once I can afford/get around to it.

When mine is back it will be quicker, stronger and handle better than it did before. This means it will get a much harder time than I previously gave it - and certainly more stick than the previous and only other owner ever dealt out.

One thing to remember though is that we may kick the cars heads in, but they still get lovin when they need it! (Although in jcred22's case I think it's safe to say his Volvo will play second fiddle to his OSF's!) 8)

A thrashing I don't mind at all, cause my car will get very thrashed. But he said stuff like drifting it straight into Walls, correct me if I'm wrong sure I saw it somewhere, can't be fucked to look right now tho

I never saw that bit mate, and can't defend it. Seems odd that he would, especially given that as he said, he no doubt paid more for it than most on here would justify.

The interior thing I can kinda understand. Everyone wants all these parts saving, but very rarely are there offers to take them. £200 is madness, but then again so is £25 IMO.
I must have seen a dozen ad's on here, even for free stuff (seats etc) that end up in the bin.

And he can do what ever he wants with his car, but there's no need to come on the site where were all enthusiasts on these cars and say I'm going to thrash it, when there's people on here who would pay to keep that car in good condition.

I await what happens to it. You can't blame him for seeing them as a cheap entry into the RWD world though, just as Sierras once were.

That's the reason I got mine, and I have to say, had I a mk1 Escort to play with and still owned a 360 then I know which would be the 'daily beater'. Worry not though, as I can't afford one! So until I get something better (JDM) of a similar or older vintage then my mk2 will be looked after by me. I'm like that with all of my cars (except runarounds). When I do move on I will either flog mine or it will become a dedicated track car - and still be polished.

We should be thankful for the trampers and the drift scene in general. Yeah a few cars meet a nasty end, but it's a lot better than the fate they would have had. Think how lower the surviving numbers would be post scrappage scheme had we never been shown the sideways by those pesky Japanese.

Very true, the japanese got it from rallying. And in my eyes rallying is alot more fun and skilled. 90 going sideways with trees ever side, fuck! But dont get me wrong they're completely different and drifting is easier to get into as you can just go to a track for a day unlike rallying and is much fun I would imagine

Rallying sucks now IMO. I know it still takes skill and the cars are pretty fly, but dangling the carrot of Group B in front of us and then taking it away again means it will never impress some of us again!

Tbh its the wording that has annoyed most of us , somethings didn't need to be put the way they were. none of us like to see cars get trashed not thrashed , car enthusiasts are that because of the fact they like cars! :) and members of the forum/club don't need/want people saying anti-volvo things (some people like them!) as i imagine most of us get it enough elsewhere, hard use is ok, drifting is ok but basically setting out with the purpose to skid and break is a different thing. its like having a girlfriend , doing her then beating her up and leaving her for dead. some people do it doesn't mean its right or legal
drifting on the public highway imo is wrong, tis very dangerous and illegal, one of my mates died in a sierra doing silly things at roundabouts and toke 2 other people with him.

There are a few 300's and owners out there who have achieved amazing and uber cool factor things with drifting, rallying, racing and modification (some tasteful and some not so  each to their own) sure they drive hard but they love their cars too! :D

you should see the clio forums everyone says they are crap but in the forums no one says it except the odd reliability joke!

i think i will be quiet now on this , don't think its helping. anyway i am off to paint my stress away! sm4

Ill do wot I like with/to my cars,

I love escorts and I love goin sideways.

My escort owes me alot but its a nut and bolt restoration and the work iv had done so far wouldv cost me much more if I didnt av good freinds in the restoration/fabrication/bodywork trade(s) my car is being done to a very high standard and the underneath of it is minter than most peoples outer panels, its gettin resprayed everywhere including inside the car/engine bay/boot etc. even all the running gear is being sandblasted and painted. every nut and bolt on the car will be brand new or replated, brand new copper fuel lines, brand new braided brake pipes, etc, ect, etc. 2.1 pinto lump wiv twin weber 45s, big valve head, ported polished, lightened, balanced, piper 285 cam, etc, etc, etc. wiv prob 170 bhp but allready thinkin bout a zetec.

I bought a 340 coz its the only cheap, solid motor that goes sideways (potentially). Just coz Im gonna thrash my car(s) dont mean I dont look after/love em. I dont rev it over 5000 rpm (mite do when its fully serviced and tuned) but I rarely change gear below 3000 rpm (mite do when im skint to save fuel) I bought the 340 some new leads, plugs, oil filter this morning but also too took it for a 'thrashing' this evening. I took the stupid tow bar off the volvo in my break at work the other day.

Plans for the volvo are, lowered and stiffened, stripped rear (already done), buckets/harnesses in the front, remove bumpers, spoiler, side moldings, maybe grill, smooth all holes and paint matt black, welded diff.
If I went on an escort website and said 'iv bought a clean escort and its gettin stripped, lowered, welded diff and thrashed I doubt id get a reaction like this. In the escort would there are loads of people who will hate my car coz it wont b original, I dont build my cars for other people, I build them for me.

Drifting on the public roads is dangerous. Cant argue with that, just hope that if anyone in the would would take part in craziness like that they would choose somewhere safe where no1 is around and dont do it wiv any1 else in the car. I would imagine there are alot of industrial estates wiv ample space and at nite there probably arent any people there????

Can someone tell me how to upload pics???

You need to upload them to Photobucket, Imageshack etc then copy the code over to here mate.

Planning on more power? What size engine are in those 340's, is it the 1.7? Welded diffs are a winner as you no doubt already know!

The mk1 sounds awesome. I do love them!

Like you say at the end of the day and in fact morning, lunchtime and afternoon it's your car, your choice.

But i'm kind of hoping the matt black comment was a bit tongue in cheek :? ?
