That red thingie is a race car so It's no surprise that the bodywork doesn't look so finished. They don't aim for looks. It's all about getting flatter/smoother surfarces so air drag would be lower. Usually the solutions which look most weird actually work the best. Also when those panels are just bolted on like that without any solid joints they are easy to replace if something breaks down. Of course it would be a diffrent thing if it would be a street car. :P
