Right, I did indeed manage to find a bloke with metal... maybe this island does have things going for it ;)

Have today taken a wire wheel in an angle grinder to the wings, and made them holey (all the rusty bits turns into pinholes... it'd be awesome cool if I could stop swearing at it). I've now made cardboard templates of the new bits of metal I need for the driver side so I have the shape (incase when I cut it all out tomorrow I loose the shape, I could use Fake if needed but I don't want to know what I'm going to find under there until I'm back in Soton.

So, cut out the rusty bits with a cutty thing tomorrow, then mod templates if needed, then cut metal to same shape as template. Easy...

It's still minus a billion degrees outside, anyone got a garage/workshop? Neighbours already though I was barking

Kaos... I raise you the amount removed...

I've made up some cardboard templates so that I can cut out new metal and fabricate the correct shapes later.

Chris, when you say you might not keep Kar, do you mean you'll find a clean shell and start again, or give up completely? I hope it's not the latter, I reckon you can make this happen one way or another mate, the winter blues are getting to everyone, myself included (even though I cheat and work indoors).
Chin up fella.

Tbh I'm not sure what I'd do mate. At the moment I'm seeing how feasable it all is, as it's Kar, but the problem is that it's on the island. I've got to go back to work on Tuesday, and if the last 2 years are anything to go by, I won't be back for a meaningful amount of time until next xmas. By next xmas I know I won't have my current job so I'll prolly be hunting and won't have any pennies to actually work on it.

We'll see. Apart from taking time (which is would take half of if I wasn't coming in every so often so I could feel my fingers again, or if it wasn't dark at 4 ;)) it isn't being challenging so far. It seems welding is all about good prep so garages must just have to charge silly labour to do it right.

good welding comes down to good prep, good machine, welders skill and correct treatment aftwards to prevent it rusting up.

Todays job... Find more metal and make cardboard shapes into metal shapes!

I was a bit shy of metal with the stuff I managed to get the other day, but was on my way to B&Q in hope that they'd have something (having rung everyone in the Yellow Pages and no one being there) when I remembered another mate who might :D One visit later with the promise of some electronic help at a later date and I had more steel :D

So, armed with enough metal, I started making some shapes

Image

Turns out that a big hammer, couple of bits of wood and a vice can make pretty shapes.

Tomorrow should be sticking shapes to the car, then I'll have one wing done. That could be game over for this hols as I'm back to Soton soon.
