I realised you're not going turbo any more, but I thought I would mention that they're not that bad. Replace the tiny turbo, change the cam (i.e. turn it into an earlier version), and up the boost a little bit, and you'll be at ~200bhp.

The 16v B230 is a really nice engine, and I think well suited to the 360. The problem here is that I don't think it clears the brake set-up (although don't quote me on that), so installation is a little tricky in RHD. Nothing that can't be worked around, but a bit of a pain in the ass.

I will be watching this topic because this is the same engine i want to put in my 360!
2nd that, use stronger bolt, standard is 8.8, but try something harder 10.9 or something, which one is one-two steps stronger?

thanks for your interest in my project.

i'll have the timingbelt and oil pump pully bolt replaced by a volvo shop, me watching the guys so i'll be able to do it myself in the future. don't wanna mess up my engine by some stupid mistake.

some pictures of a 16v b230 not b234 in a 360.
i could have gone that way to save the custom engine mounts but it would have taken 3 engines to mix into 1 sm38

should clear the brake system ok.

Ahem, that is not B230, that is AQ172 or AQ171 from my memory, can't never remember which one it is, but that is Volvo Penta engine, very close to B234 (B230 is 8-valve and B234 is 16-Valve), Penta engine has different crank which gives 2.5 litres, marine exhaust has space for water, cylinder head had some ring that needed to be removed, try search with posts made by user SJS, that is his car, 340 sedan which he replaced whole drivetrain, then he put turbo to that and started destroying gear boxes and differentials as fast as he put pedal down

Before fitting turbo he did test how strong light poles are if you wonder why in some of pics rear of car is deformed

Oh yes, 16V cam gear cover won't clear bonnet, so he made new cover from clear acryl (plastic).

ah ok, the penta stuff.

but turbo 2.5 16v? :D :D
not very surprising the gb and diff didn't deal with that shitload of torque...that engine must be the mutts nuts!

Well, that is his first project afaik, check these pics and videos so you know that car ;)

Megasquirt ecu in that car, it has quite lot of power, his goal was 340hp, but I don't know if he managed to reach it eventually, last that I heard from it was that he was going to dyno it, but always had drivetrain troubles or some other troubles with car. However that was quite some time ago.

AQ151 is the 2.5 8v (avoid 'a' and 'b' versions....AQ151c is the one to have).
AQ171 is the 2.5 16v (released as a 'c' version. AQ171d is also available).

cheers

i got bored waiting for the engine mounts so i ripped out all the sound deadening today, exept in the roof (pics to follow).
carpets and stuff will go back in, so no need to paint the places where the crap was removed for looks. should i do it anyways, e.g. for rust prevention? if so, how to get the glue off that remains after the heatgun action? i've read petrol somewhere i think.

and another question:

would it be an improvement to swap the stock fan for an e-fan in front of the cooler, like Nikdev did here:

Yes to painting it, and yes, because of rust.

ok, few pics i took today.

the big blue bag is what came out of the car...30kg only sound deadening! and in the roof its still in.
petrol seems to be the real deal when it comes to removing the glue but its an even bigger pain in the ass then removing the sound deadening itself.
anyways, when finished with removing the glue and painting the clean spots, the interior will go back in.

today i fitted the contact ring from the volvo steering wheel to the luisi boss. so horn and indikator canceling will work normaly. new steering wheel should be there soon.

trail fit of the engine mounts was also on the list, we'll see how it fits the engine bay later.

i also sealed the old oil dipstick guide hole as it will be useless with the 360 sump.

despite my epic hangover i'll try to answer sm4

it's a 16mm freeze plug, used them to seal the balance shaft oil drains and found they fit for this purpose as well.

got them from my local renault dealership, they're from clio etc.

it's like 0,07€ each or so.

Looks good but I was just wondering are you going to use that sandwich-type rubber mount as same style as the stock 360 hydraulic mounts are, where the engine hangs from the mount? I wouldn't suggest doing that when using a normal sandwich-type rubber mount as those are designed to be used in setups where only compression is added so they won't work/last too well if those are used to hang stuff from them. Also if the rubbber mount fails in that kind of setup the engine will drop so it's quite a risk. If rubber mount is used to hang the engine the mount would need a metal casing for the rubber so it would last better and be fail-safe.
