Ali's drift 360 project
Woooohoo it runs! Surprisingly no leaks from the manifold/downpipe that I can find, need to let it run for longer but there were a lot of fumes coming out of the exhaust, also lots of oil burning off the manifold etc, give it a better run tomorrow...

As there might be people on here who don't know - You never ever leave a car on bricks if you're going to be working under it, they can crumble, with obvious and unwanted consequences! The same with jacks, which can slip and let the car fall off.....
As the posts above say, axle stands are cheap, there's no excuse not to use them!

you cant see very well but theres a block behind a block at front wheels
I filled it with concrete

ali that car is da bomb its sounds sooo cool and the paint is sooo good!
GOOD LUCK

Cheers

Glad to see you've got a fair bit of space around you to work on your car - not that I'm jealous or anything ...germ wrote:Just Do what I Did

As long as I don't have to open the doors, everything's hunky-dory! Have to take the mirrors off to squeeze through the gate though ...germ wrote:it is a bit cramped there but at least you have wind protectionwhich i wish i had so much . and another thing you dont have to lay dowm on sharp stones. so both have there ups and downs
It's easier getting the Trabant through

Front cross member and ARB are back on, did up the oil return properly, made up the rest of the exhaust system and got it fitted just as I ran out of light, it sounds bloody brilliant, could hear the turbo spooling as soon as I was off the clutch so 2k rpm or something, can really hear it spooling from the exhaust and the turbo itself, speed bumps may be an issue

Awesome work
Bet you can't wait to stretch its legs a little!
Are you set up for driving it on-road, when the time comes?
How come you've not stuck with the old exhaust? It was pretty much 'straight through', IIRC, albeit not huge diameter...but that's not the end of the world.
I'm guessing you're still on LE-Jet at the moment? With the dubious fuelling capability and no retard-on-boost, I'd take it veeeery easy until you get squirt (or similar) on it. Ryan's car has been running a *bit* lean (not exactly sure how much, but nothing terrible) for about a year, and it finally let the HG go (as far as we can tell) a few weeks back.
Sorry to sound like the merchant of doom again, but someone's gotta say it
cheers

Don't worry James its not plumbed up to anything, its literally got a filter on on the inlet and a 90deg hose on the other so that no dirt can fall down into the compressor.
I've got an idea for testing the turbo out tomorrow involving taking a solid pipe from the outlet of the compressor, weld on a couple of small nipples, then block off the end with something and drill a small hole in the end. Stick the actuator hose onto one nipple and the boost gauge onto the other, then I should be able to check what boost its making.
Tbh the stock exhaust might have done it but I fancied going bigger haha, its 3" then steps down to 2.5" for the rear section, its not the end of the world if it scrapes anyway and yeah, hopefully it'll be the first road legal 360 turbo that I know of

Ah, I get you
If you're running it like that and planning to drive it hard at all before you get it plumbed in, it might be worth unhooking the actuator rod from the wastegate flapper arm, so it can't even try to spin up at all seriously, and risk excessive RPM on the shaft.
It'll make about 7.5psi, assuming it was off a B200FT. The other (and simpler!) way of testing it is just to hook the actuator up to a foot pump and gently inflate it.....then slowly let the air out, noting at what pressure it moves. the pressure at roughly the centre of travel is your baseline boost pressure.
I think 360turbster's car is already on the road, although we've not 'seen' it so far. I'm hoping mine will emerge next spring with a B230 under the bonnet (NA at first, but ready for boosting in the summer)....but that depends on how happy I am with my B200 progress this year
cheers
