Unhooking ye olde flapper is probably easier ;) Just re-attach it with some solid-core wire (I use the 'earth' from twin-and-earth).

What's the timescale for MSnnnnnS?

cheers

Errrm, going to the scrappy tomorrow to get the coil, see if theyve got any 850s in with a TPS and temp sensor, if not then i'll get looking on ebay, then order MS. So basically however long it takes to source those parts and fit it, i've got no idea really, shouldn't be that long though

I've also heard that 400 series TPSs are AOK.

Intake temp sensor....I understand you don't really need it, but if you want the added protection (perhaps a good idea in a boosted application), I think some Audi/VW ones are a nice fit for the Volvo flange....if you were planning to use a 740 turbo intake pipe.

cheers

With NA engine you might get away without intake temp sensor but with turbo just impossible to let that one out, even TPS can be left out before intake temp sensor, very important.

I bought new after market Volvo 850 tps sensor, with bit modification fits ok. Need to cut throttle butterfly axle and drill new holes to metal part where it attachs to.

Sierra Cosworth intake temp sensor is popular, some are using even temp sensitive resistor, I had this one in NA engine intake, maybe better get that Cosworth sensor for turbo.

You need fast intake temp sensor, something used in NA engines won't do as those are too slow.

I have no idea, but I would doubt that.
I tried to checking that from v software, but that is rather hard to find something specific from it without knowing engine codes and still it sometimes have such parts hidden to very odd places.

was a clever way of doing it in real world conditions, nice one 8)

you loving the turbo already and you experienced the huge increase in power and torque yet, nice one, knew youd love it! 8)

Bodgetastical! I just stuck a 5mm hole in that plate that I welded onto the end, seems to work a treat

Can't wait to get MS on it now! Going to get along to the scrappy tomorrow to pull the bits I need, then order MS :D

One thing about intake sensor that popped to my mind, be very careful that it won't get any heat soak. For example in my installation radiator was so warm when standing on traffic light that it warmed intake temp sensor pretty much, so mixture did go quite lean and O2 adjustment window is good to keep in 5-15% after initial tuning so it was not enough to compensate.

So where you install it, make sure that material won't get too warm and warm up sensor, makes harder to do tuning also.

I guess you will run ignition and fuel with MS?

My setup was similar to this version from that site: Distributor Based MSnS_Extra Setup : £260

However it needs that Bosch module and coil too, it seem to have VR-input already so you could use renix flywheel and sensor for rpm signal then without hazzle of lm-chip based vr-conditioner that I had to use.

I think pettaw has similar setup like what building from that would be.

Would not get one from ebay as from that site you can get one that is properly done as that guy has good reputation and has made quite lot of those boxes.

Were you going to install wideband O2 too? If not get at least narrowband, without O2 sensor it is engine blowing time almost guaranteed.

Knock sensing would be not too bad idea also as you will be spending lot of time using that loud pedal really well.

But I'm sure you have talked with pettaw and Chris_C about different options and possibilities and what route to go.

When questions come in mind shoot, I believe we few Megasquirters can find some answers to arque about then ;)

Haha I put the air temp sensor where the old AFM was and I get heat soak after sitting in traffic on the North Circular in traffic for 20 minutes, up to almost 60c in the summer :o Like you I found that the curve was too much for the EGO to correct.

What I did was to modify the airdensity.inc file to adjust the curve so I would still get an OK correction factor for airdensity. Tbh though using EGO correction and a wideband you're gonna get the small corrections for air density that you need.
