Spammers.

I've been deleting spam posts when I've seen them, but this isn't the solution. Is there a reason why mod's don't have the ability to ban users, especially in the absence of Aymat

I would think that because of this quite persistent spammer attack some changes are needed, however as site is Duvel's house we should listen what he wants and how he likes to run things, certainly banning users would be useful feature in this situation and I would imagine that as there has not been need for such much before it has just forgotten to add into rights of admins.

Situation surely will improve again when he has chance to do some work with site, however as some of members (probably not us), he too has life and things in it to attend to. which naturally goes over any virtual community.

Maybe some of admin members could be entrusted one for Duvel to have bit more rights to do things that are needed now and then, even he likes to be master of his house, some good servant would certainly help running the house so there is not such great need to worry if some spammer attack would produce threat to community.

I would see that it would be really good if there would be someone that could do some of the work under his guidance, respecting his views and ideas as this community has grown to world's primary source of information in relation to Volvo 340&360, I would think that having some backup admin would be nice.

That reminds me, has there been much of thought what will happen if there would be some horrible accident for Duvel? I really am bit worried as we have not heard from him during this spammer episode. Hopefully we soon hear from him, otherwise someone has to visit his house to check that he is not fell down and hurt himself or anything like that.

edit: Oh yes, admins, should I stop hitting that triangle thing and sending silly messages about spammers or is it helping any bit?

If you add the spammer profile to your FOES list, any new posts dont show in the threads, but theyre still there.

We could indeed use slightly better armament to fight with these spammers, I agree, hire her as a mod, I'm sure Aymat don't mind for us hiring such mod hired behind his back

We should really get Soldat programmer into phpBB programming, imagine how fun it would be to chase spam with ak47 and grenades

Hello guys,

I'm maybe a C70 driver since 2 years now but I'm still a Volvo 300 lover , that's the most important thing and I will never let the forum be broken down by spam...

I regularly do maintenance on the forum, spam is a problem since YEARS and I'm fighting that with mods. It was good for a moment, it's not the case anymore. The CAPTCHA module is of course used since the begining, I changed the parameters to harder one + mods inside the coding of PhPBB... Even with that, spam can go through it.

The best change with the most effective result was a registration question with a specific answer, I remember I used "please write Volvo in reverse", it worked great... Only trouble was that real members registration dropped down, probably due to mistakes and they gave up.

When I delete spammers, I ban the IP too but it's not a solution of course because the IP always change.

Just let me find a more appropriate MOD, and we'll get these spammers away from V3M.

The french forum has NO problem at all with spam, and I use the same mods... even less!!!!!! Difficult to understand...

So we need to learn french then, that is simple, even I know how to say merci, even I don't know how to get those different letters out from this keyboard

When I was younger I could actually understand a little french, but it has been long time ago, it is not too difficult language compared to chinese which is very difficult for long time I have been trying to learn it, takes years to really get it all right. French took me 5 weeks to learn to level where I could understand some general idea from subject of discussion so it really should be easy to learn by most.

However it is perhaps best to block those bots, I'm not all so sure everyone would be happy to switch to french language

Strongest measure of action would be making registration go trough admins, it is lot of work, so not long term solution. I would guess that simple question would work, maybe it just needs different question to not get drop from real member registrations.

One phpBB board did require to go to web page and find answer to question from there, it is bit too much, imo. Maybe simple how much is 3+2 kind of question would do if there would be few changing options within it so numbers would not always be the same?
