High's n lows!

Post by L14MNP » 22 Jun 2010 05:26 pm

Right, I guess I'll start with a bang! (literally)

Add this vehicle (I'm in an old PC account so thought I'd rock a library pic. lol)
Image
To this vehicle
Image

then mix in a touch of the former rolling down a sloped back street taking in a distance of about two car lengths and coming to rest a bit too close to the latter and the result is:

Volvo: (no pics really)
1 broken headlamp
1 broken RR shaped grille lol
Image

Range Rover:
1 dented and gouged rear bumper. Cheers glass lights(!)
Image

I wouldn't care, I normally leave the car in gear too! :( It turns out I have a weeping wheel cylinder which may account for some of this, althought that shouldn't have any connection to the ratchet mechanisim of the handbrake lever. I'm just thankful I hadn't parked in front, as my disclock was on and the car would have rolled to the bottom of the street and the consequences don't bare thinking about tbh!

Luckily for me, the RR is my mate Marks and he was spot on about it. I am going to pay to have the bumper repaired though of course, just waiting for him to decide when as he is going to have some stone chips etc touched in at the same time.

I was actually sitting in the RR with Mark grabbing a bite to eat and watching TV after a visit to the scrap yard when the Volvo decided it wanted to play.

I text Ben and he told me there was a 340 in a local scrappers, so off I went. £20 later I had a nice headlamp, some OEM door 'pods' and both sides of the plastic wannabe chrome gutter trim, which is in VGC. it wants to be after I farted on removing it! lol Oh yeah, I also have some of the moulded floor mats, so now I'm just like everybody else.

Fixed mine the next day and made another open grille. I went a different way about it this time though, so as to retain the original mounting points (and keep it sitting forward in the correct place.) Just a quick job. I will perfect it at a later date.

Not for me
Image
Better.

Obligatory pics of scrapyard booty
Image

Then later in the day I was pulled over by a local guy who has a 340. It is caged, F7P, -3", hyd h/brake, fuel cell, x6 Weller Circuits etc and he wants to sell it. (Reason for stopping me)
If anyone is interested let me know. He is on this forum too, somewhere.

Whilst we were talking he mentioned he had some Superlite style wheels if I wanted them. I did. Spares FTW.

and a couple pics next to the spare from my current set for comaprison.

As you can see, they has m0ar dish 8) 13" I'm not sure on the ET yet but it's nice and low. 4x100 PCD and 7J. Very light too. :D
I am thinking of reconditioning these ones in matt black with no polished lip. I'll have a think.
Max respect for the condition he has left the tyres in! If you read this, thanks again Steve. A top bloke. 340pw

Yeah man. The fans make the front end IMO. This is how I always planned for it to look (more or less). The massive open space looks good when you're not staring at a radiator, or worse still rust. lol
I also aklways have and always will have a major issue with mesh. So that was a no go too.

Here's another pic.
Image
It might not be so clear, but this time I left the main surround for the 'squares' in place, and as a bonus it makes the grille much deeper. It probs looked a bit off before due to me having it set too far back, and a ghey ass fan.

Might paint the inside of the headlights black shortly. (Not the bowls obviously lol)

Honestly, who glues speakers in? :/ Shame the blue nastiness had to die. They would match my interior.
Image
Image

Now ready for some window rattling(!) 10cm non-OEM paper cone semi-acceptable co-ax's now.

What's everyone else run? Nova's have 10cm dash speakers and IIRC those lads like Sony Xplod crap or Pioneer TSE's. The latter would be my preferred choice, but I hear 10cm driver options aren't many?

I know it will sound crap, but it will be an improvement on the current 17.5cm co-ax's under the front seats. Every little helps! This is not a car I want an install in, just some music if you get me. 340pw

Cancel the speaker question lol. Just been doing a bit eBaying. Win for overall mounting depth,fq response, power handling, clarity and of course price. They will do me for now.

Cheers Mark. It gets some use from me lol. I love the looks people give you, ranging from thumbs up to 'WTF I haven't seen one of those in years' lol

I usually remove it too (certainly overnight). I always planned to if I got one. Even before those wankers destroyed yours!

I hope you find another mate. You have got to be right near the front of the V300 queue! 340pw

A spot of mincing...

I cut the tyre off with the 4" grinder. I hate doing that! Rubber flicks up everywhere (on me) despite being well covered up. Also it looked/smelled like I was doing a burnout in the garden. Lmao.

Gotta love Nitromorse. Efortless! I was an idiot for forgetting about it when I reconditioned the Superlites that are currently on my 360 though.

I've only done the one so far, but the rim is in A1 condition, with zero curbing and only the slightest patch of corrosion.
It seems I never took a pic of the finished, bare rim. Oh well. Once they all look like that then it's time for paint.

I have a couple of colour schemes in mind. Nothing lairy though. That aint how I roll.

Good times :D .

Also, took a few pics with my mate a couple of weeks back and he has uploaded them to his Fotki site now.

May be worth a look. I was well pleased that we ran into Steve with the 4i (know him from other forums). I love that car, and he has pulled out all the stops on it. :D

Nitromorse ftw. I stripped the backs of some slotmags a while ago. It's great fun. Till you flick some in your eye with a wire brush.
I wear goggles now. Spectacles are not protection enough.
