Not really a restoration though.
More just, trying to make it drive without wobbling, and trying to get it through the mot.

your topic says 'renovation' , but restoring rust is like a small renovationvolvosneverdie wrote: More just, trying to make it drive without wobbling, and trying to get it through the mot.

BTW, this is the first time I like your wheels! Good choice

Re: Saint Giles. Renovation Begins 11.08.09
I must admit, I had started to worry about this car....................................
I wasnt enjoying driving it and expenditure was starting to spiral.
Then something good happened.
John dropped it off last night afetr doing a months work in like, two days.
It now drives like a dream. All front end vibration is cured.
80mph used to shake the sat nav off the dash, but Iast night I got it up to 6k revs in 5th gear with my foot flat (speedo not currenty connected) and it fealt smooth as a babys bot. And very rapid.
Theres talk i was actually pulling about 120mph, but i doubt it.
Im absolutley back in love with this car again, and as long as it passes the MOT without too many grumbles on mon, i pretty much plan to kiss it. Then keep it and enjoy it for a long long time.
Done jobs are:
Back bumper finally off (which took poor John nearly a day) and a 'make do' borrowed one on holding the line.
Fubar Rear Shocks removed and replaced by lovely comfy ones.
Anti-rust chemicals applied liberally.
Fubar Front Shocks removed at great length and replaced by lovely new ones.
Front springs replaced with new uprated and shorter (!) versions.
Fubar strut top Bearings replaced with shiny new gizmos.
Strut Tops replaced.
Rear Tinted Lenses Fitted.
Foglight Bulbs replaced.
Fuses for Central Locking and Int clock replaced.
Econometer and sender fitted.
External temp Gauge fitted.
Correct sided Headlight Wiper Motor Fitted.
New Deep dish suede Wheel and boss Hooked up.
8ball gear knob drilled to correct size and fitted.
And last but not least, a LOT of welding to fully renew the rear jacking points and a section of sill.
Sills then cavitywaxed to death.
Cant thank yous all enough for all the help youve given to get me this far, but I really do appreciate it.
Heres some poor pics of some new bits (that are visable).

Nice work dude, that's some progress!! Rear bumpers are a bitch to change on the ones I've done too
Can't see why you'd not pull 120mph in a healthy GLT... certainly doable just about.

Re: Saint Giles. Good News 14.08.09
Need to leave enough time to do any work that needs to be done (if theres some fails) before the MOT expires.Chris_C wrote:Wow, awesome work. Good luck for Monday dude, you getting it in a fortnight early then? I really do like those rear clusters on that black
With me of no use, and john back at work, i want to leave as much 'panic time' as possible man.
Might prove hard to organise at super short notice.
Fingers crossed it should fly it though.
