Just looking back through the thread...

Is it the transmission guard or the flap of the front guard that was hanging down at bit??

Looks good with the rack, or though be prepared for mpg madness with all that drag... :P

Just going from what John said.
He said the corner of the undertray gaurd was bent over and scrapes on bumps.
I can hear something scraping if you have to go "one wheel on, one wheel off" so I presumed it was that.

Mpgs?
Im seriously pottering so id be surprised if I lose much.
Aerodynamics isnt much of a factor below 50 is it? thats where I do most of my pootling.
And weight?
Im up to 22 stone and our lass isnt far behind. Cant see the roof rack making a WHOLE lot of nevermind.
I'll replave the spare with a aerosol of Tyreweld.
That should ballance it up?

No idea, ask some boffin in a lab coat down the local uni. sm28

Or just conduct your own experiment. Obviously you need to try and do exactly the same thing each time: Once with the rack on, and once with the rack off.

If you pootle around town, it might make 0.5% difference. If you're leathering down the A1, it might be 5%. Maybe some wheel spats would offset it? 'orses for courses.

mmmmmm. if i was doing serious motorway miles on a long jaunt, id take it off. But round the doors I think itll be ok.
They say having a window open creates 0.5% difference in drag. But you know, its hot. :P

I had a roof rack on my A60, it affected the mpg to the tune of about 7 on a run, but with a bicycle on there, it made no difference at all. Moral of the story: For best possible fuel econ figures, carry a full-sized gents bike on the roof, looks much more individual than the roof rack seen on every second window cleaner's car across the nation. :wink:

Or maybe a surfboard? They're surely an aerodynamically efficient form of luggage if you want to blend in with all the bloody grockles...... :D

Precisely James Hunt's thinking when he used to batter around in an old Austin A35 van.

“I can put everything I learnt in motor racing into driving it round the Wandsworth one-way system on a wet Saturday night, blow off all the Ferraris and nobody takes a blind bit of notice.”

No, ive been wrapping a chain around actual trees and trying to pull them up on the common.
Shrubs= no problem.
Trees= not enough torque.

Nice new additions mate. :) I like the dominoes. :P :lol: Guess that rack will come in pretty handy too! She looks ready for some crazy round the world trials now. lol

I will dig out the Volvo centre for that slash and get it to you at the weekend if you want. As you can see, the Lolvo one isn't 100& watertight. lol
