Can't believe I've missed this thread till now!
After reading it all, part of me is glad that I did till now! At least it's looking positive at last!
I once did terrible things to a Morris Marina but I'm not going into that
I was given my first 343 20 years ago (ex parents 13 year old rusty freebie!). Then, the very idea that one day there would be even as many people talking or arguing about or even modifying them as there is now would have been very hard to believe. I remember at college one lad taking the piss when he saw it was an automatic (he had a Mk1 R reg Fiesta so I didn't loose too much sleep

). I only went in his Fiesta once and the only thing memorable about it was getting a wet back side cos the water got in and soaked the back seat
There are oodles of 300's left compared to Mk 1 escorts I'm sure (Don't forget the Escort stopped in '73 and the 340 was still in production in 1991!) so I think the supply and demand factor has a lot to do with it. Of course there's also the rally history with the the Escort which adds a great deal of appeal. The 343 is not without it's motorsport history however.
The 300 may not be an escort but I'll be interested to see what happens when all the (unappreciated) cars currently tucked away are crushed, drifted and bangered to death and we loose one of the last cheap, widely available, easily modified rear wheel drive cars.
I'm old enough to remember as a kid seeing loads of those MK1 escorts trundling around in their death throws in the late 70's early 80's. I bet there's loads of folk who wish they'd kept theirs now! But there again, if they had they wouldn't be worth diddly-squat
Nice work on the Escort, keep us posted, it's always interesting to see what people are doing on different cars.
