Frits had if on his 340 for a while:
i'm going for rear spoiler + louvre too but with the volvo emblems on the tailgate, mudflaps AND even on that reflectorplate it's just a little bit too much for me

Yeah, I agree ... Fitting every exterior accessory there ever was does make a car look a little strange
I still haven't decided about the rear louvre on my 343. Next month I need to visit Mr TÜV anyway for the historic plates and will ask him about that, it's one of these "needs to be added to the cars' papers" accessories.
I love that powercoated air filter housing, I really want to look into that too

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
cvt on the run!

the old box

and "new" box

thrown under the car

swapped a driveshaft i had lying around cause the old one was fubar (ripped dustcovers and too little grease left in it)

and voila, done

the old CVT was swapped because it leaked all over the place.. i also thought there was play on the gear selector mechanism inside the transmission, it was a pain in the ass to get it in D. gently selecting P and then a hard pull on the lever to get it to D usually helped but that isn't how its ment to be... But the mechanisme in the transmission didn't turn out to be the problem, the gear selector lever was

new (whatever this is called in english) since i freaking hate the stupid clip that is originally attached to it

and a new bush made from Delrin, this does the job perfectly and Delrin is nearly indestructible so these are a lifetime solution

next... taking the red '89 340 apart for parts to be refurbished/powdercoated etc... that will occur at the end of june, untill then i'll enjoy every single driving mile with the 343

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
Nice as always. Out of interest how hard is it to maintain a CVT?

Not hard at all. Just have to get your head round a different way of doing things.

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
jep it is abacadabra to most people but if you look in to it and do it properly the maintenance is eazypeeazy
i wrote a few manuals in dutch a while ago, that was actually harder than doing the maintenance itself
downside to the CVT is that the periodic mainenace (adjusting the clutch airgap and adjusting the airgap of the secundary pulleys) HAS TO BE DONE every 10.000km or 6000 miles / every small service
if you wait longer these will strongly affect the duration of the parts and fuel economy. if you drive a CVT 300 how it is ment to be (as much full throttle as you can
) the best thing is to check the clutch airgap every 3000km and adjust it if nescassary
but... once you get the heng of it, it just becomes a routine. you deffinatly not need a fancy mechanic with high payroll to do it for you. some people disagree on me about this and sometimes drive for 30.000km without the CVT service, most of the time i get a call by then if i'm interested for throwing in a new clutch since the vehicle stopped moving
just filled it up with petrol after a combined use, 100kmh motorway, 80kmh roads, 60kmh roads and a bit of local cruising around our village. it reads out 1:15 or 35,28MPG who said a cvt can't be economic
*edit, i definatly don't drive below the maximum allowed speeds!

byebye '89 340. took it comletely apart last saturday and saved the suspension/engine related parts, including the nose for a bit of future work:

with that i don't have to put a car off the road and can work on an engine upgrade indoors, how cool is that
the garagebox full of parts

few bits going out very soon, after that a cleanup and i'll have some proper space to work, let the 343 build begin!!
small hint of what's coming up:

that's all i'm gonna say for now

parts of the locks that are allready chromed will get a polish, but the black housing is gonna be chromed, along with chrome mirrors it should look beautiful on the 343, it just suits the model

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
I agree about the chrome, I still have the all chrome boot catch from my 76-77 car, it was off the car when it was stolen, also have 1 black old type mirror I kept as a spare. I also have 4 of the oldest wheels with the black hub caps! I'm thinking I might do the 1980 Mk 1 I have as a 76-77 replica (exterior only due to black dashboard). Any idea where you might come across the old type mirrors? (or any 76-77 parts?)

Re: Anjo goes 343! the daily project
na i'm not fully converting it to a MY76/77, i just combine a whole lot of 300 series parts together to make a 343 to my taste. exterior trim all chrome/stainless is part of it, current 14" MK2 GLT rims (leo's), full B14.4E conversion, B14 PAS kit, 340mk3 suspension front and back, -4cm and red koni's (on normal setting) all around, rear spoiler + louvre, headlightwipers, DLS/GLS bumpy bonnet, DLS/GLS clockset and so on
possibly leather interior, black carpet, black doorpanels, black leather steering wheel instead of the blue.
i have a mk3 B14 Airconditioning system too, i'm still doubting on adding that next to the PAS since i'll have to figure out something for the heater housing and a AC switch that matches the style of the dashboard..
and also the uglyest thing about a MY80 343; the hideous "volvo" badges on the front wings. will be replaced by 343 1.4 DL emblems, like the earlier MY78/79 cars had

Really look forward to seeing that, it's going to look great!volvodspec wrote:exterior trim all chrome/stainless is part of it ...
A switch from a 200 maybe? The original <82 V300 AC switch was a twirly-knob thingy ...volvodspec wrote:i have a mk3 B14 Airconditioning system too, i'm still doubting on adding that next to the PAS since i'll have to figure out something for the heater housing and a AC switch that matches the style of the dashboard..
... in that case it might be an idea to replace the boot badges too? There are some nice stripes around which go well with the smaller boot badges ...volvodspec wrote:and also the uglyest thing about a MY80 343; the hideous "volvo" badges on the front wings. will be replaced by 343 1.4 DL emblems, like the earlier MY78/79 cars had
