good job you didnt crash and die.
Wouldve made one head of a Report.

'....and in local News, a young man accidentally mangaged to shoe himself in the head with his own shoe, through the sunroof of his own car, while traveling at moderate speed. There were no survivors, bar the other shoe. The inquest today returned a verdict of possible mental retardation.......... now Alan with the Sport.'

Ah yes, it was a 1.7 GLT multipoint of some antiquity - been a while - you were still in short trousers when I was driving it

Hey everyone

Took the leo's in today to get tyres fitted, happy as a kid in a candy store, really looking forward to getting them on the car and some photos up before bed but alas it was not to be.

There was a issue with the machine putting the tyre on one of the rims and to cut a long story short it resulted in a 6/7 inch long deep gash along the dish of the wheel  Gutted! it looked horrible.

They were really sound about it and sent the wheel off right away to be professionally refurbished at there cost, but still kind of gutting so i only have three now until tuesday.

Uck, that sucks. I'd be interested to hear how they're going to repair it safely, depending on exactly how deep it was...

cheers

So today began the long but scarily close road to retro rides, so lots of work volvo wise :D

Plan is a respray in royal maroon with white stripe and leo's and a few other bits done, hopefully suspension but may leave it till after mot and rr as time is against me.

So today i started stripping the car in search for rust, and i wish i hadnt gone looking  Its pretty crusty around the the drivers side rear wheel arch and very bad around the to front, mainly wing territory, so am umming and ahhhing about whether i should get rid of the mot failing rust, get body work great and spray, but leave the front inner wings untill i can afford new wings from volvo, as im working to a budget at the moment and the paint and everything else is bought. Or remove the wings and probably not have the car for retro rides :( .

Anyway on with the pics:

Front partially stripped:

Back almost done but how on earth do you remove the rear bumper???

Yeuch... been there dude.

Re: The rear inner arches. Rip all the sound deadening out to check for more - the metal is unpainted under the sound deadening so it can easily spread under there. This happens as the plastic plugs that go in the arch (you'll see them if you look up into the arch from the outside) fall out and it lets water in :(

All the rust on the front panel is the same as i had on my 86 340 mate and its not too bad to repair.

2 bolts each side which go through the chassis rails, ring spanners required - on every car I've removed a rear bumper on it's been a complete bitch of a job, they get very rusty over the years! Lots of wd40, cursing etc... When I removed the rear bumper off my saloon before I scrapped it and had limited time I ended up cutting through the boot floor with an angle grider to take out the bolt at the same time - brutal but effective (not that I'd recommend it in your case!)

Dan, as Steve says, ring spanner one side, 6 sided socket and breaker bar the other. Have new bolts ready, I normally shear them.
