Bad hunter

Post by jtbo » 11 Jun 2010 06:42 pm

My adventures with mouse hunting have stopped to gain any results after mouse number 43, however I did found reason for that.

There is a cat in my warehouse, it is such cat, that it is really afraid of me, runs to hide everytime that it sees me, I put some food and water to it, so that it won't starve to death, but I'm having great difficulties in capturing it. I don't have access to any trap which I could use, also it seem to find hiding places that I can't find.

Cat seem to be quite untamed, I don't wish to release it back to wild as those are bit harmful for nature, but in order to make necessary procedures it would be needed to get it captured somehow.

I'm not too good with my hands really, but would there be some simple traps which would not kill it, that even idiot could build?

Box,
String,
Stick,
Catfood (or something shiny).

Done.

Might need a hammer too, if it gets a bit bitey.

It refuses to come out when I'm even in warehouse, I did go hide and silently waited for 2 hours, but it stays in hide, but sometimes I have managed to surprise it while it is eating, however it seems to be bit challenging.

So it is quite impossible to use any method where I'm around to see it.

I will not use hammer, there is no point to harm poor thing.

But it need to be checked by doctor and if it has ran away somewhere, proper actions would be need to be taken, so need to get hold on it somehow. I have turned warehouse upside down, can't find it, damn it is good at hiding.

I got an animal, but it was not a cat, it was some rather long and with small legs, it was quite pissed, so I let it run away. Weird thing.

Try and Google "catnip", cats are crazy about it. It might not lure the cat into the trap, but it will certainly stay there once it gets a whiff of the stuff.

I've gone off cats a little, since one peed into our tent on holiday :? Very hard getting rid of the smell. The front seats on my GLi have been replaced once, for similar reasons.

Cheers

Actually cat nip does not work for all of them, there was some gene missing from some cats which is required to catnip to have some effect.

Creature was perhaps something like this, there is tad dark and I'm not sure about size, but quite lot like that it did look like:

Got cat captured, quite a change after it found out there is no escape. It is now in hands of professionals, it probably has not owner, so have to consider about adopting it, there would be some use for mouse hunter.

So that first cat is now at animal shelter, I did set trap again as I knew there is small change to catch one tomcat that has been roaming free at least 2 years, it has bits missing from ears etc, also it is quite nasty fellow overall.

So I set up trap and got it in no time, I hear clear bang as door closes and go to see what I got, there he was already had ripped metal wire net so that is half way trough it and got stuck there... Now I would think that tiger clearly can rip this net http://www.puuilo.fi/cat/product_details.php?p=2109 however pussycat, how on earth that can be so strong? Metal wires were clearly broken as I examined it later.

Anyway episode was far from over, I did blocked exit so it can't escape and I could deliver it to shelter too, but also I had problem of animal being stuck and probably being in small pain as it had broken net keeping it stuck, winter gloves + welding gloves did provide necessary protection as I did pray metal netting side to make opening larger, claw, claw, double claw, teeth and plenty of hissing there came, but as it found itself free thing just stared at me without any fear, but more like challenging.

I put food and water under it nose and at least no more hissing came out. then I decided to go back inside, I flip light switch and immediately I hear cat running, next I heard / saw was huge crash as cat did run _trough_ Plexiglas window, making glass broke to few pieces and small wooden frame that keeps window at place broke off, small wooden frame is nailed to window frame, but I guess weather had weaken that and Plexiglas. Of course it was clear that creature vanished like pee at Sahara during midday.

I'm not too sure, but I have strong feeling that cat has been eating steroids or something like that, that net is such strong that I really have to push myself to get it ripped from one point and Plexiglas is quite thick, 2-3mm I would say.

So back to planning, need to make new trap that can withstand strength of tiger. If those are generally such strong, then should people be bit more careful around those, such could easily rip throat open or cause severe damage to leg, most horrifying would be such creature attacking to your 'middle leg', I will probably see nightmares next night now

Wikipedia had photo of almost same looking creature:
