No, there are 5-speed models, but low spec models are perhaps more likely 4-speed also older ones.

I was fairly sure the DL were all 4 speed, my 86 brochure shows its is 4 speed only. GL and GLE are 5 speed. 360s all 5 speed.

Pretty sure all DL's were 4 speed until 88 as my 88 dl is a factory 5 speed.

so 89 is probably the year when 4/5 was an option, or at least they made some 1.4/5speed DL's after 89.

seems like the DL's are most common to find with really silly mileages and "going to shops about twice" between major services - I'd like a super simple DL, mk1 with naff all miles - travel the world in it.

I don't know about that, might be that 89 was where they dropped 4 speed completely, at least I can't remember seeing late model with 4 speed.

Couldn't find my 1988 brochure now, must upload when I'm on another machine, but those brochures would shed some light to this also, especially what was available at options list.
