I have a car, it's a cat D write off, it has a tax disc showing 31/7/10, it has an MOT that is valid but cant be found.

1: will the mot still be valid after a cat D "attempted theft" write off.
2: Will the tax be valid?

mot is valid, tax is valid but you need a vosa inspecton (£25 ish) to show the cars still roadworthy.
The 406 I had was a write off, repaired with a new bumper and headlight and I just rocked it.
Was gonna do the vosa inspection to co-inside with the next mot. But the shitheap died.
You're meant to get an inspection 'as soon as possible' if you plan to carry on using a repaired car after insurance write off.

Cobblers! No VIC required, that's only for cat A,B & C. (insurance damage categories HERE (pdf))

Cat D is just "insurer can't be arsed doing anything because it isn't worth" e.g. take an Yugo 45 + damage indicator = Cat D.

no, no luck.. found one that has been previously stolen.rec though but missed the auction, it went for quite a stupid price £340.00 for catD with broken glass, big dent, little dent... nice interior though and 24k... white too so easy to paint. did well, got its money somehow..

I got pulled 3 times while I had the 340, it needed a VIC... was going to do it when the tax run out.

Thing is, If the car has been marked with a VIC, and has been classed a Category D insurance write off, is the old MOT invalidated?
or can an MOT not be invalidated by cat D

I remember my brother driving a 78 120Y for months after being written off.. it was totally caved in from a cavalier up the pipe at dunno.. prob near 30MPH, the arch needed crowbarring off the back wheel and the boot, lights and bumper were on the road impersonating mince - definitely a "Parts only" ... totally

I'm sure he drove it till the mot ran out, and that was legal with taped on rear lights and no sharp edges... or near enough for back then.

This new volvo might not be a 300, but I will get a 2 litre 360 at some point, must get cheapest transport possible for now, looking at £200 OTR coz i'm "resourceful"
