Volvo 360 in German 80's car mags *torque curve*

Post by crazycat » 23 Jun 2010 02:48 pm

Found those reports in some 1982 and 1986 car magazines, they're german but they feature a data sheet and torque/power curves so i thought they could be interesting for you, too:

Interestingly, the car only gets about 19 MPG during the tests while i'm getting 25-30 or more (not driving slow at all)

Just a quick note to say that Wolfgang passed away on the 18th April:
http://forum.vandoorne-daf.de/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3592 (German text only).

I never had the chance to meet him, which is a real pity. I know he may not have been the most diplomatic kind of guy, but definitely a Daf/V300 legend here in Germany ...

I think that I have missed this thread.

Shame that Wolfgang passed away :(

Also I have to ask why in German magazine they have so many words starting with capital letter?
In dieses Konzert der rauhen Töne stimmt bei hohem Fahrtempo auch die etwas betagte Karosserie mit ein; ihre Windgeräusche übertreffen dann fast den Motor
Translator lies:
In this concert, the harsh tones right at high speed driving and the body with a somewhat aged, their wind noise then exceed the engine almost
Maybe it is meant to be some joke about how elderly people are likely to drive fast, but translator is not quite able to get it right, but I can guess bit better with translator, maybe I should try to learn german language too :p

Great articles, old car magazines did do car reviews properly with all the data, I have here at least one of such, should scan it, sadly no 300 series articles.

German is (apparently) the only language in the world that requires the capitalisation of all nouns ...

That sentence isn't about elderly people driving fast, it's more to do with wind noise from the "slightly dated shell" (dated! This was written in 1981) being louder than the noise from the engine.

Wolfgang has left a huge collection of cars and parts behind, I wonder what's going to happen to it all :-(

I feel sorry for all German speaking world, that must be the pain to write as you need to constantly seek for shift key

Wind noise is quite heavy on 300, but more so in 3 door models I think as upper part of the door starts to flex after some speed, but maybe engine was just relative quiet compared to other cars of that era

At 150kph on race track camera was not picking up much of engine sound as wind noise was so loud and I could see upper part of door shake a bit, but another bit is window sealing, in my vario there is tiny bit missing from window seal and it makes huge amount of wind noise, maybe with bit better seals for side windows it would be better.

I would think that Wolfgang had made some plan for cars what comes to them after him, but it might be we never will know what it will be.
