Post by pyro » 27 Jun 2010 12:09 am

Hey guys and gals

Just wondered if any of you folk were interesting in woodturning/woodcraft etc..

few of my projects and experiments here!

Id been after a woodturning lathe for a while, for christmas i got a basic one just for me to get the feel of things and learn the basics, (after a brief arguement with Clarke!

Here are a few things ive made over the past few months, I didnt actually get to use the lathe untill end of march due to dissertation and uni work

But here we go!

Image
Ive made nearly all the mushrooms you can see here, just a bit of fun really gets me familier with the basics!

Hmm, this is interesting, here nobody could afford to burn such exotic wood (it is amazing how relatively short distance, there is quite change in wood commonly used), we burn Birch and Pine (Scots Pine mostly as it is quite common), also those are most common for woodturning too. I did some when I was younger and still at school where there was equipments for it.

Here is an idea, how about making 300 series original alloys, full collection from wood and glue it to some background, then framing it? Not easiest thing and requires lot of dremeling or something like that too, but basic shape could be something interesting to work with as there are lot of angles and shapes. Would make nice art for garage wall, I think.

Cherry wood shifter knobs with multiple layers of clear coat would sell quite well, I think, you might be able to convince missus from your hobby when it buys nice dinner to both of you :D

there are a few things in that sentence that make me laugh,
1) knobs
2) cherry
3) the missus (i think im a lost cause!)

You are confusing and (slightly) scaring foreign persons

Had to google, a bit, for that other knob you can find big market from China, they are crazy for stuff like that, I bet missus would find such ornament rather nice too

One co-worker of mine bought one wooden knob of that nature too, I got bit worried about him after that, however rather soon after that he got married with a nice girl that likes scifi stuff, so I don't know, maybe chinese persons know something we don't
Oh, that co-worker had quite bad perverted imagination, but that's nothing, his missus has even worse, I can't say that I would have clean imagination, it is indeed rather dirty, but those two, just on their own class
