the story continues....

Post by madseb » 07 Jul 2010 11:13 pm

ill continue this story from my last 300:
which ended up like this:
Image

so i ralised that my life wasnt complete without a 300 in my life,
so after telling myself i would not settle for anything less than a 2 door ;) i found one for sale, and a trip to maidstone late one friday night, and i brought this home.
Image

this first thing to get the chop was the radio, the journey back had revealed that the mw radio was stuck and wouldnt tune to any other station, so out it came son to be replaced with a sony and some lovely door speakers, all supplied for free from a friend.
Image
Image
Image

shortly after was the application of a set of 15" wheels i had lying around, although the front ones were the wrong offset, and required me to drill the front hubs to 14mm and install subaru extra long studs.
Image
Image
Image

next on the list was to remove the rear badges,
both of which proved difficult, as someone previously had removedthe bdages, left the glue on, painted the bootlid, and then put the badges back on over the top.
so i had to sand the glue back, through the paint, flatten it all off and then take a trip down to halfrauds, and find there nearest paint match.
by no means right but pretty spot on and will do for now.

ill have to get a picture of the finished lid, and the paint match im rather pleased with it.

and i bought this the other day, while getting the paint, lucky for me it was priced up wrong, so i quickly snapped it upbefore they noticed.
Image
having no rev gauge at the moment is driving me a little barmy so i need to get round to fitting this.

no teething problems with the new motor as yet, apart from the alternator wire breaking loose, this has since been repaired and uprated to stop it from happening again.

there is a couple of spots of rust on the rear of the sills, and this will be attacked at work, nothing major compaired to the last one.

lots of plans in store for this one...
watch this space....

i plan on making this one a bit special, and away from the "grandad" or "tramper" image that the volvos seem to have now been tared with.

well as im sure i have mentioned im a metal fab by trade.
so first on the cards is a eurostyer stainless cage, hopefully retaining the rear seats, which will be recovered later in the year.

i got quiet a lot to live up to so im going a bit further with this one.
i have just sourced a 1.8 f7p engine, manifold ecu, loom and downpipe. this will be going in in a couple of weeks.
linked to a stainless system, hopefully with some kind of kicked up outward rolled side exit.

the wheels are not perminent and were only thrown on because i had them, im thinking something much shinyer, and at the moment im beign drawn towards ronal turbos to compliment the yet to be applied paint.
they are for sale though if anyone fancies something with a bit of dish :)

to anyone not knowing what ronal turbos are,
or candy apple red heres some pics.......i know you all love pics..

I think your heading in the direction I'd like to go with mine if it was more than just a runaround. Something to take on the Vag boys yes? if so i'm looking forward to this VERY much!

I always remember seeing a photoshop one of the old members did on here on the way he was going with his and it was slammed with Porsche D90's and he did a few different colour variations and it just all worked so well!

I'll be watching this thread VERY closely! 8)

ok so continuing with the whole clean, euro look.
a friend had just bought a pair of light for the bumper of his mk2 golf, so before he had the chance to fit them, i quickly pinched them for a measure up.
Image

behold they fit the gap but not long enough, but with a bit of fettling, possibly fibreglass or plastic welding. i rekon they could look rather ace. thought this could be a good alternative to the slated grills that i seem to be finding hard to aquire.
its just an idea at the moment, and i think they line up nicely with the edge of the light/grill. i saw a capriat the weekend and the front idicators on them look long enough, although they are orange not clear.
so what do you lot think?

also i believe i read somewhere that the mk1 astra indictaors were a replacement for the orange indicators on the front of the 300. can anyone confirm this, as i would like to loose as much orange as possible from the car.

comments/ideas welcome.

just a little update,
after sitting in traffic waiting to cross the thames on the ferry, i was rewarded with some parts this weekend.
behold the f7r in all its glory!
Image
Image

along with the goodies collected were these:
Image
soon to recieve the coilover treatment aswell as an oil refill to stiffen things up.
have been looking at possible spring choices from other cars, i need something a bit firmer than the volvo springs.
all ideas welcome.

the inlet manifold is surplus to requirements and will be for sale if anyone needs one.that and the megane head. offer entertained on these.

thanks

been a while since ive updated this so to keep you all informed as to where i am with the project ill post a few pics,

got the spare set of struts ive purchased all stripped down ready for the coilover conversion.
Image
ill be installing new wheel bearings while they are apart, and lengthening the wheel studs to 63mm using 14mm subaru studs.
i plan to run 300lb escort springs which will fit the converted spring seats.

also picked these up to mate to my f7r engine, currently in pieces on my bench at work. all beign cleaned and recorded ready for reasembly.
Image
Image

im going to be running a mega jolt stand alone ignition, with the above coil pack from a megane, which i belive will work but i am yet to have this confirmed.

that and loads of other parts for my conversion have turned up including:
3m of stainless fuel line
50 stainless fuel p clips (will be used on the battery lead aswell)
facet 12v red top fuel pump
adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

and a load of other f7r distributor parts that are now surplus to requirements :(

well been a long week at work, but managed to get the motor all stripped down and painted,
awaiting a gasket set now so i can get the megane head back on.
Image

still waiting for confirmation on the megane coil pack as to weather it will run on megajolt or not?

i have continuity tested the connectors at the end, and they all seem to be connected. i.e getting a reading between them all. so am i right in thinking this is after all a wasted spark igniton?

very keen to get this sorted, as right now its all that stands in the way of the project beign completed.
