360GLEi SE - what's it worth?

Post by Alanovich » 22 Sep 2010 09:18 am

What do we reckon this is worth then? It's just down the road from me, but priced about a grand over what I would like to pay. 500 quid off though and I might be tempted.........

It is very tidy, but it was sold a couple of months ago to Ben Mckie who brought it along to the National Weekend a couple of weeks back.

Ben might have sold it on but he's not said anything.

It's a funny one. The same dealer was advertising the car two weeks back, but he took it down after a day or two.

Now the ad's back up. Think I'll have a wander down there and see what's occurring.

Well I went and looked.

And I couldn't resist. This has to be one of the finest left in the country and I'm going to make sure it stays that way.

I'll be picking it up tomorrow!

Christ, am I in trouble with the wife.

Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I turned 40 this year and the missus should be pleased that my mid-life crisis is only stretching to a Volvo 360 and not something more exotic, or even two-wheeled.

You only live once and all that.

I've always loved these cars since I first rode in one in 1983 - it was a black 345 which my Mum was test driving. She then went and bought a Mitsubishi Colt because the Volvo was just too heavy, not much lighter to drive than the existing family Triumph 2000 (PKX 788M).

I had a dying 360 GLS for a year some time ago, which got driven to the grave. I just couldn't afford to save it and I needed reliable transport for a long commute. That's when I bought a 480, which served well until a dustcart wrote it off.

I always promised myself that I would atone for allowing my old 360 to die by saving another one when I had the money, garage and time to do so. Well now's that time. What a silly sentimental old sod.

I think I'll probably get sectioned within the week.

First car ive actually seen in the UK with aircon.

Aye, that is a gorgeous car - and the air-con still works too! Ben hadn't really intended selling it as he was quite fond of it, especially after the long trip it got at the National Weekend, but he did say that it's gone to a good home.

Ben seemed like a very nice and genuine lad when I met him, I've no doubts at all that I'm buying a very genuine car.

He may not have wanted to sell, but I'm sure he'll be seeing it again. :D

Will oblige with photos when the weather turns here. I got it home today and have stashed it straight in the garage as we've been having thunderstorms this afternoon.

It's a stunner, I am well pleased.

Ben mentioned that it was due a service, so I think I'll get the oil, coolant and brake fluid done at a garage, and do the rest myself. I noticed that it's a tiny bit hesitant when starting from hot/warm, and puffs a bit of smoke when it catches, but I reckon that a good service, with some new plugs, and perhaps a distributor cap and new HT leads will put that right. Any other thoughts? :?:

Sounds like you're having a cold start problem andyh? Is that right? I was talking about warm/hot starting. :?:
