How much did your volvo cost?
I bought my volvo 360 GLT from ebay, with a winning bid of £360 gotta love that correlation!!
i also wonder if the volvo's are going to start increasing in price as every other RWD car in England has!?

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
I gave £400 for my one previous owner 1984 3dr 360 GLS with 67K miles from a dealership in 2008. Prior to that it had sat in some old geezers garage for 15 years lol.
I wasn't even after one. Just fancied something fun for the winter lol.
I too wonder when the price of them will rise. It's never gonna be mk2 Escort money but they WILL go up in value someday. The oldies from this forum will tell you they already have, as you can't buy them for 99p on eBay anymore lol.
Also, this must be the slowest moving forum everrrr!

In order, in the last 18 months:
340 GL - £230
360 GLT - £350
360 GLE - £650
340 vario - £220
According to the VND-o-Meter, Values DID go up, but have fallen again recently.

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
My 360 glt was my mums, so free, she even paid the fees to keep it in the barn for the last 9 years, not particularly for my benefit, just cos she loved her volvo and didnt want to sell it for a pitance.
She bought from the wife of a bloke who had a Volvo dealership in 1996, with 33000 miles on it, a boot full of spares for £995, then used the car in the UK and Spain for 5 years!!!!!
Then bought a new car and put the 360 in storage!
My mum will sell the car for 2 million pounds ,or exchange for a house on the front of Windermere!!

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
Only including cars I've had on the road or intend to, not just bought for parts!
1st ever car in 1991 was a 1977 343 DL (parents old car) free!!! eventually stolen while S.O.R.N.
2nd car in 2001, 340 GL 120,000 miles, £500 high miles but good condition, now my everyday car
3rd car in 2002, 340,?? miles £30 good condition, given away because I couldn't sell it!
4rd car in 2009, 360 GLS 17,900 miles £1200 nice and shiny sunny days only
5th car in 2009, 1980 343 DL 66,000 miles £150 project, needs a lot of work
I would say values depend on condition of course but also how desperate you are to sell or buy a car and how many people are looking for a car at any one time. With modern cars there are always hundreds or even thousands of people looking for a model of car. Hence we sold our scenic for £1100 within days, even though it was nearly 10 years old and just below 100,000 miles. A 50,000 mile 20 year old 300 would take longer to sell and not sell for as much (although it will probably hold it's value better if you look after it, unlike the Scenic, which being French, is rapidly heading towards the £250 bargain basement dept., hence the sale )
How to increase the value of your 300:
Buy up as many 300's as possible and scrap them (wasn't that something thats come up on the forum recently regarding a certain TV motoring correspondant and the Ford motor company? )
When you reach the point where more people want cars than there are cars.... £££
I think we are coming to the end of the age of frequent 'barn' finds of low mileage cars, but there are still quite a few others out there still in everyday use, even not including us!

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
I paid A$1250 for my 1986 360GLT two years ago. It was up for 1350, I got a years car rego with it as well - probably not worth that much then but a full years ticket wasn't too shabby I'd probably struggle to get even a grand for it now though.
The car yard had a choice of two - mine, and a MkII GLT. I went for the MKIII cos it was shinier - and it's STILL the only MKIII I've seen on the roads here!

Yup, those were the days... grumble, old, moan, grump etcL14MNP wrote:The oldies from this forum will tell you they already have, as you can't buy them for 99p on eBay anymore lol.
I've had a pretty broad spectrum of prices for mine, £950 was the most I have spent on one (it was 9 years old, practically new!) through to a free 360GLT from the VOC forum.

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
I thought the hike in tax wouldve meant more people giving away cars. Never really happened though.Chris_C wrote:Yup, those were the days... grumble, old, moan, grump etcL14MNP wrote:The oldies from this forum will tell you they already have, as you can't buy them for 99p on eBay anymore lol.

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
I've paid everything between 1900 Deutschmarks and nothing for my 300s ... They're not really cars to make money on, at the end of the day it pays to get the best example you can afford.
Originality, special equipment (air con /body kits), rare model (special editions, early cars), rust-free shell - all bump up the price - the same as with most "young classics" really ...
Cheers
Tom

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
I've only ever bought one which was £256. The shell was rot free and still remains so underneath (shame about everywhere else). So far I've spent over £2000 on modifying it No complaints though, best car I've ever and probably will ever own.
The value rose until the recession when the buyers market for everything collapsed. Now prices are low again

Re: How much did your volvo cost?
Jul 2009 - £335 for an '82 Vario with 14k. Spent (probably) another £400 doing the brakes, exhaust downpipe, 12 months tax, MOT, beers (for mate doing brakes in my absence). So for 700 quid all in including 12months tax I'm not complaining at all.
Re: How much did your volvo cost?
good price range, ive seen that volvo on this forum and ebay which is going for £2000> the 3 door 360 minter!! i hope it goes to a good owner and not a driftyboy such as myself
Re: How much did your volvo cost?
I payd 5500 kr for mine, wwich is about 500-550£ i think. Really cant get any cheaper cars in norway which still works or isnt illegal to drive on the road. For a spare parts car it is about 2000 kr. Had to change the waterpump on it, but he gave me one with the car
War isnt about who is right, but who is left
Re: How much did your volvo cost?
Dunno why people are saying 'when' but it's already happened. A few years ago we were buying absolute minters for sub £400.... stick one on ebay now and it'll no doubt make £1000-1500
