Time to Weld

Post by theBaron » 29 Nov 2010 03:17 pm

Hi All,

I was directed this way by a few discussions over on retro rides. I have just acquired a 340. It needs a bit of welding on the rear chassis for NCT but other than that it it very clean and straight. It is somewhat of a budget build as I managed to pick it up for the princely sum of €200 with three months tax. I am deep into a Toyota KP30 build that is absorbing all of my cash so mods will be limited on the 340 but the plans are to weld, Polish, NCT, Lower, New wheels and Finish.

Enough chat, some shonky phone pics.

Hey dude, and welcome in.
Weve got a big crossover with RR on here. Seems everyone loves their retro rollers.

Looks like youre a fan of Rwd from the look of your collection.
Any specific plans for the 300?

Plans to use the 340 as my daily but it may get some outings next year for Multi Venue Autotests.

RWD is indeed my friend, I guess it is a result of growing up with Sierra's.

Starlet was another €200 buy as I goT it when I first started Motorsport and the KP is my new competition car.

I went back to college Full Time last year so had to sell off all of my road cars but couldn't turn down the opportunity of the Volvo.

NCT is indeed MOT

Hi mate and welcome.
Looks like you got a whole lot of car for little money. Well done.
Are there many 300s left down south? They are like hens teeth up here in the north.
Cheers Mark. sm4

Cheers,

Same down here. I cannot remember the last time I saw one on the roads. Our local Doc had a matching pair of 343's for him and his wife but I'd say that was in the mid 90's at the latest.

I reckon that is why I managed to get it so cheaply, they have not developed any following here due to complete lack of supply.

I've only seen a red one round Dublin in the flesh, and about 3 for sale in the past few years I usually bung 'em up on the board, think there was a gold one in Kildare, a blue saloon in Cork and a white 1400 in Roscommon.

Tax system is completely stacked against importing one in, so what is left here (bugger all from previous scrappage schemes) is all there is :(

But if anyone comes across a vario, or an uber-rare RHD Irish market asthmatic diesel for a handful of yoyos, I might part with the Citroen....

Good point. I often see how the guys in the UK can check the number of a type of vehicle that still has tax or is sorn when estimating existing vehicles.

Is there any way of doing that in Irl?

Finally got cracking on this now that I sold the Starlet and I really needed to have a quick win project given the glacial progress of the KP.

I ordered a a set of -50mm springs and 2" rear lowering blocks and and managed to get hold of some landrover shocks locally.

Last weekend this happened

To keep costs down I've rebuilt the front shocks. I'm not convinced as to the suitability of this but the car is insured as of 4.00 pm today so I'm going to take it out for a shakedown tomorrow night in a local navigation event.

I got hold of some 13" e21 BMW alloys which I've painted up and they are awaiting new tyres.

I've also installed harnesses as we plan on running this in an Endurance rally in 1 1/2 weeks time.

The paintwork is shocking so I'll hopefully get it cut back and polished up at the weekend to try and improve the appearance.

I'll pop up a few of how she currently looks tomorrow evening

I've blown my budget as well - Total spend is €450
