Why do YOU own a 300?
Thought it would be interesting to see the reasons behind 300 ownership. Whatever the reason, be honest! Even if it is just because they are correct wheel drive and Sierras cost too much now.

The modifying came later, as a by-product of wanting to make the car look better.

What actually happened was I nearly bankrupted myself traveling the length of the country, buying and accessorising. Without doing anything but accidental drifting.old grandad wrote:Well ive probably had more 300s than any of you kids have ever seen (in the last 18 month) and I got in because they were cheap (therefore uncool. Which to me meant cool), reliable, and drive at the back. With a view to a bit of skidding.
Do I regret it?
No.
Theyre good cars, I'll have another one as soon as I can afford it (Valver flavoured) and I think that this community (though a bit light on posts) is still the best ive come accross on line.

Re: Why do YOU own a 300?
My father had 300-series when I was a kid so that's where I got the spark. At '96 or '97 he bought an -86 360 Turbo which pretty much "sealed the deal" for me and I knew when I get my driver's license the car had to be a 300-series, preferebly with a turbo.
So at 2004 when I was getting my license an -87 360 GLT Turbo popped up for sale and I bought it.
I like 300-series because of it's originality. Different type of cars which aren't too popular amongst the public crowd or even the enthusiast (I don't like over hyped cars, that's why I never would buy a Nissan Skyline for example even though it's an excellent car engineering wise.. but too many fanboys with no real interest in cars and that "fast and the furious" image on the car).
I also like the fact that with very basic improvements 300-series can be built to be a quite well performing car. Redblock's ability to withstand serious HP-figures is of course also a plus.

By accident, a love of Varios and an inability to use the "NO" word.
Re: Why do YOU own a 300?
due to a peugeot that broke down monthly, a desire for RWD and a childhood dream of having my own volvo after my dad had quite a few.

Cos I couldn't afford a 740!Why do YOU own a 300?
Even though volvo parts are expensive here, I've known the B200 engine for yrs, and they've never failed to be anything but utterly reliable. So I figured when I arrived in Oz just over 2 years ago, I needed something cheap and reliable while I found my feet, got a decent job and saved up enough for a really really good car.
I've had the 360 for over 2 years now, and while it's starting to show it's age and has nearly 250k on the clock, there's no reason why it shouldn't see another 250k

Re: Why do YOU own a 300?
It is really great to drive, there is direct control to car and it 'tells' all the time how much grip there is on road, also suspension has enough travel for our horrible roads and ground clearance is enough for smaller roads. Mechanically it is enough simple so there will not be big issues and those what come up are easy to repair, car has plenty of heater power and there is enough room for adult size driver. Car is also nice to look at.
Also I think it is one of rare cars from 80's that is worth saving in it's original form, mostly cars during that era started to be annoying FWD crap.

Re: Why do YOU own a 300?
Dads specialised in volvos for 25 years now so all my life ive been brought up with volvos, got a few pictures of the drive way at my house and every single car on it is a 300 including mk1's wish it was still like that ha, so I'm 17 next month and wanted to surprise my dad with a 300 for my first car, so went and got my 340 with my brother and left it on my drive for my dad to come home an notice and I think he was more excited than me especially when he didn't come in for tea and stayed in the garage finding me bits to put on it.
Oh and because I just love the shape of them and the drive is where it should be oh and another because when I'm driving it i won't see any other people driving one and if I do I'll probably follow them and have a chat even tho where I live it will probably be some old lady driving it and she will ring the police hahah

Re: Why do YOU own a 300?
inherited the first wich was a red '89 cvt (former belonging to the brother of my grandpa) as my first car, at first i didn't like it and told my mates that i was gonna throw it in a tree after a few weeks so i could buy a proper Vtec crx. i had it for barely a week and the engine began to run rough, i refurbed the carb and solved the running issue; then in the wet came the first RWD experience in a roundabout "drift" and after that i was sold... got in contact with the V3C and became a member, dug myself really deep in technical knowhow and after that i couldn't let go anymore
i especcially enjoyed fixing other cars, most of the times i've encountered the same problem before wich made fault searching quite easy. with the car it began to take forms such as the Snap-on sticker i had on my toolbox at work: Race it > Break it > Fix it > Repeat... after the 3rd engine / 4th gearbox / 3rd rear axle and 2nd front suspension, and a lot of upcoming rust i thought it was time to say goodbye of the red 340 soon. wanted something fast and rwd so i thought about another brand/make of car but simply couldn't let go of the 3 series and bought a 340 wich i could build properly, without the mistakes i made in the past.
that was the beginning of the blue 340 turbo; mot of the red 340 was running out with possibly a lot of welding and wanted something reliable as a daily; by coincidence the '80 343 came along and with 2 if i may say so beauty's next to the house i'm really glad i stuck with the 3-series rather than buying that Vtec piece of shit i initially wanted

Last time I took that I ended up thinking I was a tangerine. I climbed up a tree and wouldn't come down because I thought a policeman was going to peel and eat me.
No more lsds for me thanks.
Re: Why do YOU own a 300?
it all started when i went to ace cafe for a car meet i was in my old starlet gt turbo which i loved!!!! some tawt was trying to do a little drift round the mini roundabout in a e46 m3 and was failing big time due to leaving his traction control on by the looks of it HAHA then a 340(dark blue with turbohaus on the windscreen-which i was told ws sid!) rocked up and i was like wtf is that and it just started having it...... and i made it my mission to get one!!! and four years on im still driving them!!!
