Hi all,

I know we're all into 300-goodness here, but my other interest is BMC/British Leyland/Rover Group cars. I went to a meeting on sunday and thought I'd share a few pics with you guys.

First up is this old ford van,it's being done up by one of the Western Australian Rover Owners Club members as a project.
Image

Image
I had to take a pic or two of my 360!!

Image
I love the window sticker!!

Image
Rover P5. I love these things :)

Image
This is owned by a mate of mine, the stickers hide a multitude of sins. Sounds the absolute business though :)

Image
Some kind of AC...

Image
What do you call a group of SD1's? A brace? A Headache? Certain financial ruin?

Image
A modern addition. I imagine trying to run a troublesome 75 over here would be tough on the wallet...

Image
The old and the new. They really got it right with the Range-Rover Classic.

Image
I like this very much...

Image
My friends 110 Tdi. I'd love another Land-Rover...slow, noisy, uncomfortable... motoring nirvana :)

Image

Image
Financial suicide yet again...massive WANT for some odd reason!

Image
A project car...

Image
with the project.... I think this is a Range-Rover injection setup... not sure though...

Image
These can fetch serious money now.

Image
Another pic of the 360.... just for the hell of it. The SUV next to it is a Ford Escape. Are these sold anywhere other than Australia?

Image
Never been sure about white-wall tyres....

Image
And lastly the P4 owned by a friend of mine.

Let me know if you guys like these pics. I go to quite a few of these classic car events. I'd go to a few Volvo Owners Club events - but there aren't any :(

Good set of pics there. I don't mind and I don't see a big problem if it's labelled.

What's the story with your nearside headlamp? (looks a bit squint to me.)

Awesome pics Tom.
Austrailia really does have the right weather for meets and shows.
Beats standing in a car park under drizzle.

That beigey race-looking SD1 is the sex!

Interesting stuff (tm) is always welcomed. Be that car stuff, good engineering of anything etc etc etc. Just keep it out of anything actually labelled Volvo ;)

Non-Volvo content it is then, no worries :)

What's the story with your nearside headlamp? (looks a bit squint to me.)
Its had a front-ender at some point, theres a slight crease in the passenger side, grille brackets broke,, and the bumper wing bracket on the drivers side is broken, and serious paint mismatch, hence all pics of passenger side. Bumper is skewiff as well, but unless I get down to serious fettling or panel replacement, or take it off the road as a daily driver, it'll stay like that I suppose ( have tried bodging but really needs sorting properly, or new bumper).
The front bumper has had a fairly recent (in the last 3 years) respray so that's evident of some collision...also complete lack of bumper blanking plates (thanks to VND for the bumper grilles, I've actually included him in my will for these. He gets the half-empty can of WD40 in my shed, and a twenty-year-old copy of Fiesta I've been saving :) )
BUT since the 360 has been as reliable as a brand-new car for the last 2 and a half years, I've had no reason to take it off the road and get these things fixed. A victim of it's own reliability?

ONE DAY i'll do it all :)

BUT no owners club support, no meets, no nothing. extortionate parts price, means us volvo guys here are doing it worse than you guys. How long will it be before the the stigma of "Not a Proper Volvo" is lifted from the 300-series.... A pet hate I know.

Rant over :)

As ever, leave it with me :)

Cool pics, i'm liking the SD1's. Whats with the tyres you run out there (not you as in you but as a collective) it just seems some/most have got massive old school looking sidewalls, not that theres anything wrong with that, i like the look, just wondering?

Edit- My quoting skills are weak

Not sure about the whole whitewall Tyre thing. They look ok on some classic yank cars, but I dunno about british ones. I guess it's just a fad :)

Hiya Tom,

Wonderful fotos as I am a big Rover fan too.

Just love the SD1's and earlier cars.

Could you possibly go into your Photobucket account and resize them to 640 x 480 because then we will be able to see all of your lovely shots.

Here's my baby yesterday.

A 1990 Rover Metro GTi 16v single point injection model, the year they came out.

This shot was reduced from 1600x1200 here

To this at 640x480

and this is the link to all my fotos yesterday. Note that here in the UK we have had one of the warmest winters on record, see the daffodils which are 6 to 8 weeks early . Bit different to last year when the winter was one of the coldest ... :(

Great pics all round. I've got a soft spot for anything Rover/BL as I grew up with them being everywhere and now I can't remember when I last saw an SD1, an 827, a Metro ...

Thanks for posting them up!

Tom

Morning Tom,

I have been a lover of BMC then BL cars all my life and I think it's a tragedy that this wonderful car maker is no longer with us.

All sorts of people and governments to blame but will not go there ..

These are their cars that I have owned down the years:

Morris Minor 1000 Traveller with 1098 cc engine
2 x MGB GT's
1 x MGB GT V8
MG 1300 Mk 2
Austin 1800 Landcrab
1 MGB V8 Costello Roadster
998cc Minivan
Austin Metro 998cc
MG Metro Mk2
Rover Metro GTi 16v spi

Plus lots of other great cars from other manufacturers.

Happy memories eh?

Have a great day

I dont like rovers unless theres a "land" in front :P I liked that 110, the ARB bumper looks the balls! :) I think they did sell that ford escape here, looks alot like the newer mavericks?
