New wheel trims, cheap and nasty?

The original factory paint on my steel wheels has begun to look a bit jaded over the winter. When time permits I'd like to repaint them properly rather than simply give them a 'blow-over' with a silver aerosol. In the meantime I've succumbed to the closest I'll get to a 'modification' in the form of a £14 set of trims from the local motor factors! I spent the best part of 30 minutes choosing a set which looked remotely 'eighties' without fake chrome wheel bolts. I think they look reasonably ok, at least until I find time for a proper paint job.

What do you reckon? I know they won't suit a purist but they do freshen it up a little. :?

There not THAT bad, but they're pretty horrific.

I would have just got the paintbrush out, or left them as they were. Too easy to put them out of sight, out of mind.

That's the problem, getting the paintbrush out would be a quick fix as horrendous as cheap wheel trims. When the car is clean the only thing which lets it down is the wheels and as most people don't view the 340 as a 'classic', cheap wheel trims are probably more acceptable than rusty steel rims. I agree though, they'll need doing properly before the show season starts but until then, 'out of sight, out of mind'. Precisely..

You really should have got some pictures of the other ones... It may have supported your case for the defence a bit better. sm6

They're kinda growing on me now having slept on it - in a mid-90s period aftermarket fit caring owner sort of way. I'm sort of feeling sorry for Ian doing his best to keep up appearances here and getting a tidal wave of negativity.

The car is fantastic and a credit to you, but the wheel trims are a bit...meh.

Having seen the cack in some motor accessory shops you get, they're rather sober.

Well done macplaxton in a vain heroic attempt at a positive comment on those wheel trims :-)

Ian: how about keeping an eye out for some original 13" Volvo hubcaps - part 6 in the pic?

They can't cost much on the bay, maybe someone here has a set they're willing to part with.

Cheers

Tom
