50MPH Limit on Dual Carriageway..
60MPH Limit on single track road..
It just seems a little daft to me. (Yes even to me) (To me even*)

what really blows my mind is that "car - derived vans" such as vw caddy for example is by law permitted to do 60mph in second picture, whereas an old shape transit is only permitted to do 50mph in second picture, yet a bus is permitted to do 60mph in second pic and presumably a tractor the same(if it can)
weird!

.. Answer to Why is the whole country covered in restricted speed limits.

At least you don't have 37.28227151MPH limits at every intersection on main roads (really, that is what 60kph is according to google), we are not far from that these days, we used to have 100kph limit even during winter, first they did make winter time speed limits lower, then they started to 'forgot' to put back those 100kph limits, latest trend has been cutting limits in every tiny village to 40kph and they are putting those 37.28227151MPH limits to every intersection where has happened an accident or where might happen an accident.
So when you are travelling, you have to pay lot of attention what is speedlimit in current section of road as it jumps from 100-60-80-100-80-60 etc etc. This has then introduced new kind of idiotic behaviour on roads, there are people who ram from side road onto main road without much looking or slowing, so that person driving on main road have to slow down a lot to avoid accident, but as speedlimit is such slow as 37.28227151MPH they mostly make out okay from that, except if some bored trucker likes to 'forget' about those 37.28227151MPH limits.
Also if you exceed speedlimit by 3.72822715MPH you will get fines which are more than if you punch someone into face, also exceeding limit by 1.86411358MPH you get warning, they will cover every mile of our main roads with speed cameras too.
Lower speedlimits during winter were based on claims that it improves safety, that is how it was marketed to public which bought it with clear eyes, you can sell anything to general public with safety these days, true reason was that roads wear a lot less when doing only 80kph instead of 100kph, that is what most don't know however as there has not been big news about that research result.
Also our policy is based on that when collision will happen, there is no IF! So everyone is made drive so that they can safely collide, now what that will make of attitudes of drivers? Will it make them more careful or more risk taking?
Surely our roads might differ a bit, but same way drivers are made less and less capable by safetynets and limitations to point where driver no more understands risks and don't have understanding how easily one can die on road, new cars are not really helping either as no matter how you drive they feel like sitting on home sofa.

I'm confused, is there some new law coming in that is restricting duel carriageways to 50mph?

They don't need a law for that, they just need to put those 50 signs, slowly more and more and more, then one day after all roads are limited to 50 they make a law that dual carriageways are to be 50 at max. If there is going to be any critism about signs they need only to pull safety card and probably majority in there too accepts new restriction of freedom to get illusion of safety.

No need.
If petrol goes up much more people will choose to run at 50ish to save money.
If im doing a run, I always try to stick around 55 unless theres someone going even slower.
But then im rather poor.
