hello all. im new here so i thought id introduce myself. im dan and im from north wales/ shropshire border.
ive had peugeots most of my life and a mk1 fiesta and a s2 rs turbo. but ive always had a soft spot for old volvos. ( crazy i know)
i want a 300 series but i dont no what to go for and was hoping you guys could guide me in the right direction.
i dont want a minter. but i want a tidy, reliable one. pref not the 1.4.
what do i need to look out for when buying one? common problems?

What do you want 300 for? That may well influence which one to choose.

Pretty hardy cars but beware tin worm.

They mostly go on the sills Near the rear jacking point

budget drift car mate. and i love the old skool coolness of a 300.
what wheels fit these? i was looking for a set of 7jx13 superlights. ford fitment? vw? im a bit out of my comfort zone with volvos lol.

4X100 pcd.

Plenty of stuff to fit not Ford though they be 4X108.

1979 - 1992 Peugeot 505 was rwd set up, and limited slip diff as standard factory spec

sorry, just had to mention this gem!.

300 problems = sill's and front valance is prone to rot. indicator stalk retainer clip holder thingy = made of blu tack
300 drive train = well lets just say it's not a jag!
and front spring cups on a 300's macpherson strut = use phpbb boards search bar, top right hand corner.

welcome mate! i came from a 1.4 pug 206 to a volvo and have never looked back (exept when watching the numbers rack up on the petrol pump lol)

renault, vauxhall, mg/rover, vw and mazda (mx5 at least) 4 stud wheels fit

sunroofs can be a pain, rust as already mentioned.

A 1.7 is easiest to swap in a renault 16v engine and the 2.0 can be swapped for a 2.3 turbo out a 900/700 volvo

Welcome mate. Can't beat a proper old Pug. I've had a couple of mk1 xr2's, cool cars. S2 RST, bet you wish you still had that now! They're going for mad money, as with any old skool RS though!

The drivetrains are fine on a 360. The 340 is the weak link. I'm not 340 bashing here kids. Just telling it how it is!

I thought there wasnt much in it.

The 360 has a torque tube which presumably relieves the strain on the propshaft but the 340 set-up is perfectly robust for normal day-to-day driving. I've had at least half a dozen 1.4s and a couple of 1.7s and I've never broken a propshaft yet.

Just watch me break mine on the way home tonight now I've said that...

Fuel tank mounted behind the wheelbase is never good though.

I prefer to steer mine with the accelerator, so handling is a non-issue. It was wolly as fuck before with all the old bushes and ball joints etc, so although it may not be up to 340 standards when back together it will be a damn sight better than it was - plus I won't have to crawl under it changing props every other month.

Just buy one. There are plenty of 300 professors on here to keep you right.
