hello!

Post by germ » 16 Apr 2011 11:55 pm

Hi guys,

As some of you may know i have been away for quite awhile! but I am back! sort of  :P
Things have changed quite a bit for me, I've moved from England to France back to England and now northern Ireland!
Moved in with my fiancee in a bit of a rush and as such have left the cars behind, i bought a fiesta over here to run round in for £100 and sold it after a month mainly because it sucked and also needed cash, made a nice profit of £200! so ... now i want my volvo back! its still in england parked on the drive wasting away, hence why I am here!

my options are, car transporter hitchin to newtownards (100's of miles) quoted at £595 or fix it up and drive it over.
as far as i remember it needs an engine, driveline fitted , brakes redone (as they are binding) and a really good clean in and out!

i have an engine but afaik it wont fit, as the sump/oil pump is different it's an f3r from a scenic. also the water pipes are different. any idea's on this^ the 1.7 sump wont fit onto it, so would i need to weld engine mount points to the renault sump?
i would rather get a cheap volvo/renault 2.0 8v(from 440) as the sump fits and the hoses fit better?

Many Thanks and its good to see many of the same names still here!

I'd ship as working at a distance is a bit of a ball-ache.

Good to see you back dude. I'd try and get the engine and drive it for that price, but depends how much time you have to do it :s You know if you take a week off to do it the job will take 8 days ;)

hi,

i really do need to go back to sort my stuff out, but i hate being away from my gf and she hates it even more! lol she cant come with, as no passport. but sorting my stuff out is important because my mum is getting very annoyed with 4 cars filling the drive ! none of them are road worthy as well!

tbh right now i don't think i can afford to run petrol, so i guess some creative diesel stuff might be on the cards and lots of engine bay sound proofing!

*finding a suitable week in my diary,..er calender er ... asks gf!!*

Thanks
William

I'm puzzled why you need a passport to get around the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland...

I don't need one to get in/out of Ireland even, providing I don't go Ryanair.

But vehicles are a headache for boat trips. Keep 'em peeled as they're something just as likely to turn up on your doorstep.

I know its weird, i can go by boat without passport, but as you said ryanair requires one and that would be how i get to England to drive back!! cba doing a 20 hour coach trip!

Edit: are you saying you can get from southern Ireland to anywhere in the world with out a passport? as i know for defo getting in northern Ireland from the south is impossible with out a passport!

No, I'm saying I can get to the UK from the Republic and back. It's call the Common Travel Area - CTA.

When I've come and gone on the boat, I've never been checked (except sometime the odd customs questions on arriving in the UK). If I fly into Dublin, immigration want to see some photographic ID, so I have used either: a) UK passport, b) UK driving licence photocard, c) Irish Digital Tachograph card.

Ryanair's T&C's stipulate the ID they require and are strict. If I fly with Aer Lingus or bmi to the UK, a photocard driving licence will do.

 How so? Getting into NI from the South doesn't require a passport. Do it all the time (as do many cross-border shoppers) and was in Newry the other week...

yea , ok .. fair enough, just i was in dublin a few weeks back and on returning they made me produce a passport to get back into northern Ireland! getting out was no problem it was just getting back in.

all this said i don't understand why (in the uk anyway) we should produce id as its all common ground people supposedly fought in wars to prevent the need to be checked at points and now it seems we need it for everything!

 Lucky man, the do occassional checks, but I've never had one and I've been up and down the road a lot. I'm sure if you had other official ID, the passport wouldn't matter too much if it was clear to them that you were a UK resident.

That aside, I'd try seeing what bids you get on shiply.com or similar transport backload site. I think if you go over to work on it, as Chris says, it'll always take a day longer!

Hi Germ.
You now live in a place called THE UNITED KINKDOM. Why do you think you need a passport,
you are in your own country. If i moved to say Whales or Sctotland or England, i would not need a
passsport because those places are also in the UK.
Newtownards is not that far from me if you ever want to meet up for a yarn.
Cheers Mark. sm4

Is that where Ray and Dave Davies stay? :P

Anyway, I thought the full title was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Hi Tom! its great seeing that your still here! sm4 believe it or not ive had the redline over 5years now! i dread to think what it looks like now i haven't seen it for almost a year!

Mark i might hold you too that! i haven't got a run around at the moment and haven't been far over here, basically ive been to scrabo tower a few times, carrick fergus and milsile (excuse spelling) oh and Belfast city airport! been through some other places but was just to get to Dublin so it doesn't count! i am currently attending ards business center because i am starting up in business so very busy. when that's completed I'll be going to England to see what the situation is with the 340 and hopefully bring it back to life, many problems will arise as its still french reg and needs moted .

Glad to see lots of familiar people still here (feels homely!) and i hope all is well.
