Hello! New volvo 340 owner

Post by billkent22 » 08 May 2011 11:15 am

Hello, Im Bill from Maidstone,Kent

Ive been on the forum a few weeks now just soaking up loads of infomation so thought it was time i introduced myself and my car.

Ive had my 340 about a month and love it!!

62,000 miles (ish)
No rot anywhere (amazing)
Parted £200 for it (the plates for sale for £800 :D )

Its a 1.4 but i am currently working on avalver lump for it but as this is my first ever bit of engine work im strugling with the minor details and was hoping i could ask a few question, the main thing that scares me is the wiring/ECU side of things although i am eyeing up the 'ready made' loom that a member on here sells.

Anyways heres some pics:

Looks good man, more valves is a good idea! Get hoarding the 1.7 conv bits before your lumps ready!

I have:
A clutch (coming this week) inc spigot bearing.
hopefully sourced bellhousing, alt bracket, sump and mounts.

Still need:

R19 thermo housing.
An ECU
Wiring loom.

Car looks clean mate, good plan on tearing out the boat anchor!

IIRC someone on RR was selling a loom and ECU that would meet your needs.

Add water pipes unless youre fabbing your own.
* electric fuel pump. (unless youre already set)
* reversed inlet manifold if you want to keep the heater.
* 2 front engine mounts,
* 1.7 clutch cable, uni throttle cable.

Good luck man. Theres a lot of info here if you hunt.

O really!? might need in on that! :D

@ volvosneverdie - Does the pump go inside the tank or does it have to be a facet pump? Im not going to run heaters atm but see how cold i get during winter

^External pump as close as you can get it to the tank (ive been told), as the standard will starve you.

Just repeating what has been said before by those who know better, Ive never done it meself*

*though I plan to! (but I'll be starting with a 1.7  )
