my 340 is still playing up i just cant work out why it wont run right. Ive basically changed everything i can but it still kills the engind when i put my foot down. Its really starting to get to me im at the stage where i just want to scrap the bloody thing

Only other option i can see is get another engine but the question is do i stick a 16v but i dont know how much that will set me back or just stick another 1.7 in and stick with what i know. What to do what to do

What have you done so far? Carb rebuild?

carb rebuild hmmm that might help cos i does seem like its either fueling to much or to much air.

Do you know where i can get my hands on a rebuild kit?

Hve you checked the floats and the carb base for leaks man?

ive not check the floats. And it does look like there may be a slight leak at the base.

I aint that mechanically minded so all this stuff is new to me. But im learning slowly

Theres a guide somewhere for carb probs. check for leaks along the base. cornflake box gaskets using the old as a template ftw.

When you take carb off, check bottom of it with a ruler, if you see this kind of gap between ruler and the carb, then there is the problem:


Fixing that requires wet sandpaper, thick smooth piece of windowglass, a table and bit of time.

I find it is best to remove throttle butterfly shafts completely and carb top plate + other parts, so there is just carb base left and then sand that so that it is straight again, use plenty of water.

When putting carb back to motor, make sure you don't over tighten the bolts, those are only 2Nm or something as silly, you can almost tighten to that with your fingers, so best to use some locking stuff to keep bolts from opening.

Cornflake box is perhaps not petrol resistant? There is proper gasket material sold, it is not big of issue if you get thickest you can find, will cost next to nothing from place where car parts are sold.

After getting base straight, adjust floats, then turn all screws to base settings, all data can be found from technical section of this board, there are green book info from base settings.

Then it is required to adjust a carb again, but it should work a lot better after that.
