Comments from the public

Normally I get some smiles, nods and even got a "gorgeous car mate" from a drunk

Nothing beats the drive to work today though. 2 builder-looking guys in an 06 punto with a union jack flag on the roof. "what the FUCK is that?!". I love it  As I was smiling I think they got confused and came past 2 more times to make a point. Apparently Volvos are controversial now!

Anyone got any related stories to share?

I've had the odd question/compliment but tbh most of the time my car just blends into the traffic given the colour. I'm surprised you aren't as camoflauged.

Ive had the same kid say "Your cars fckin sh!t" twice.

That when I was running the black GLT. And the second time when I had the red GLE.

TBH I dont think he registered the change. But I was quite proud that both cars registered as uncool to a kid with his tracksuit bottoms tucked into his socks.

Depends if you wanna stand out or not Speedy. I'm guessing you do lol. So, mission accomplished?

I overheard some young mother telling her kid off for looking at mine when it was outside the house once, "it's only an old Volvo." Very true. Saved me having to say the same as it was when I was about to step out the garden gate lol.

LOL @ Ben. Guess he wasn't a fan then.

I do remember driving my old saloon through the city centre when a guy in the next lane in a Transit asked if he could buy it - in hindsight I should've said yes

Think my retorts were :

1) Well it's faster than your Freemans catalogue bmx son. (to which he called me a fckin arsehole)

And

2) Wash your clothes. You smell like a sock.

I was away in enough swiftness to avoid a retort that time. So the moral victory is mine.

What is it with the tucked in socks anyway?

Can't they afford bicycle clips??

Generally people hear mine coming before they see it so it gets looked at whatever. TBh i must be getting old, i'm thinking of changing my side exit coz it gets on me tats.

Sitting at lights next to a removal van, guy asks "Where'd you knick your wheels from, a go-kart" , that was pre-lowering.

At Wheels Day while leaving someone shouted "do a burnout" from chuckles from the crowd, so i lit it up on the exit

Also while sitting in traffic heard a group of tracky kids on the pavement talking amoungst themselves, one said "Nice wheels" to which his mate replied "so why put them on a sh*tty car"

In general i'm just a miserable sod, so tend to keep my contact with the general public at an absolute minimum.

I think a standard 300 in scruffy/used looks gets no real attention. (assumed to be a grandad)

Immaculate 300 gets a bit more but not much more to be honest. Mainly people driving too close behind to get a better look to see what it is and odd second glance from one or two people. Small kids in cars passing on the motorway sometimes wave as daddy probably says 'look at that old car' as I do to Jack when we pass something different.

Tidy 300 with very minor changes (that is different wheels), generally as above, maybe a few more looks from the youngest drivers/boy racer types who probably have never actually seen one before

I'm as yet unable to comment on a lowered, modified 343, maybe a bit more when it blows their socks off (or at least out of their trouser bottoms

Do some aeromods and people are stopping to take pictures, pointing and being rocked off completely from their tracks, their brains enter to panic mode when they see something which they don't except / can't understand.

So some are just staring their mouth open.

It's been over a year since I drove my 360 publicly, so I have no idea what reactions there might be, but maybe at some point I can get it on road again. When I did some TLC to paintwork, I did noticed some people looking and having admiring expression on their face, so it does affect a bit how your car looks, I guess.

I don't really care much of general public as most of them are very predictable, simple, which kind of bores me, it is too easy to predict what they are going to do or say next, so I tend to avoid of getting bored.

HA HA! What a reaction! Yes mate, and you have COMPLETE taste in cars with a union jack on your PUNTO! "Face palm" Each to their own mind.

People only notice mine because its loud and modified. I've had a couple of lads walk past and sy "that car is sick (good sick, not bad sick  ) and had some rat-look boys say its cool and stuff like that. That was in a traffic jam, was pretty funny. "Ere mate, you been up santa pod?" Me - "no, just going home" NO SCENESTER BOY! I USE MY CAR FoR DOING STUFF!

Nah, I really like the mixed reactions these 300s get. You don't really see them anywhere, though I now know of 4 in bristol, including speedy's. I've found they are quite marmite, either really love it, or really hate it. Some people look and are gob smacked, others are like "WTF?" Its awesome.

300s are different, retro and really under rated, they are awesome. 340pw

Had a lad in central Reading stop dead in his tracks as I got out of my 360, then he asked me if I was filming the next chapter of Back to the Future. Quite witty, I thought.

What size are you guys?

I'm over 6.1ft tall weighting around 22 stones, jumping / running is not a big problem for me so when getting out from car I can do it very easily and quick despite to weight, maybe because of this nobody has had really much of interest to come say bad things face to face

Maybe smaller is easier to shout at? Might be bad mistake, I know few shorter guys that would wipe a floor with most of ignorant fools that are trying to pick a fight, so can't really understand if those bad mouths would tend to annoy just smaller drivers?

I'm short and very boney. Plus baby-faced. May as well stamp "go on, take the piss" on my forehead
