Hi Everyone,

I am trying to make my final decision on whether or not to buy a 340/360.

I will be 18 in less than a months time which makes insurance a bit of a pain on most cars; I have had a few quotes for both 340's and 360's using modern insurance cover but have not yet rang either of the couple of classic car insrures that cover my age range.

I have just sold on my pride and joy 1999 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v (it wasn't too bad on insurance being a group 4E but i am hoping that a volvo will drop my overall insurance) to buy another classic as i miss my 1989 Metro 998cc Clubman.

I was just wondering how many younger members there are on here? and what you pay insurance and whether you are with a classic insurer or not?

I just need to make sure that i am making the right decision before commiting to buy a 340/360 and possibly travelling a distance to buy one.

As said in a previous post my family have owned quite a few 340's and a 360 in the past and i love them and would really like to own one myself.

Two things to note, you can only have one Classic on a classic car policy, or atleast with most companys.

I insure my Volvo as a classic and my 1960 Bug on standard insurance as it works out cheaper that way.

Also ALWAYS RING, you will always get a better quote over the phone.

Agreed. Always ring for the best deal.
Get the earliest GOOD car you can and the insurance will be your bitch.

Normally around a tenth of the cost of a modern 1.bent Paxo etc.

YMMV, as a good classic insurance broker should understand that you have only one arse, therefore you can only have said arse in the driving seat of any one car, at any one time.

Im 20 1 year ncb I get cheaper quotes for my 360 thsn the astra mk4 1.6 16v sxi that I nearly bourght instead. I currently pay 1100 a year with CIS. Online the best quote I had was 1500 so its worth ringing.

IIRC you dont get NCB on classic policys?

All the specialist classic or motorsports policies I've had have insisted that the car they are insuring isn't my main form of transport, that should be on a normal policy... which might be what he's on about

Oh right Chris, a strange concept to me as I don't have a main vehicle on a normal policy either.

I was paying £1200+ as a learner on my 1.6 16v Astra mk4 and had quotes at the cheapest of over £7000! with a full license, so i knew getting a classic sooenr rather than later was the way forward instead of sticking with my Astra and not being happy.

I love the idea of saving a classic again and keeping it tip top

I have also noticed there are quite a few of us northerners!

We havnt got a club. Or if we have, youre already in it.

footman james insure the 340s... except mine has doubled this year( £1800 ) to renew, thanks to cunts in corsas that crash and drive uninsured... but its worth noting the 1.7 is the same on insurance as a 1.4

Durham City also mate! haha i have only seen one 340 around here though in the last few years! a silver 343 last week.

I'm slap bang in the middle of Durham. I go up belmont KFC on a sunday night if you ever fancied a look up, hopefully my car wouldn't put you off getting one haha.

Never seen that one about, there's sometimes a brown mk3 340 in durham and i've seen a nice blue mk2 340 a couple of times. There's a couple nice 240s kicking about, was a nice 240 GLT in white i followed out of college the other week. Am getting to be a proper volvo nut me haha
