1.7 clonking when going round corners

Post by valman » 22 May 2011 07:24 pm

hello, i posted in the engine section, but havent had much luck really so thought i'd pop this here as theres more traffic i guess -
i bought a 1.7 340 yesterday, and it has a carb issue - when going round right hand corners, it likes to clonk out and engine loses power for about 3 - 5 seconds then its fine. it also does the same when going over 80mph (on private road, obviously) now i believe this is related to floats in the carb - so i have adjusted these to the 33.8mm spec as stated in the haynes manual and the valve thing thats in there is working fine, nothing is stuck or broken etc - all moves freely. however, after adjust the floats to correct height, the car feels much faster, BUT it now has a similar issue when going round left handers too - which would usggest there is even less fuel in there than there was to start with. can anyone help me? thanks in advance

Have you tested your floats to see if they are leaking? Take them out and submerge them in water. If they are leaking they will start to sink.

sorted it in the end, i fitted the floats that came with the car and it solved the issue, reason i didnt use them first time is because my friend bent them together and they were a bit mangled :( but i straightened them up haha so its all good now, very pleased :)
