Not sure if this is the right place to put this thread, (moderator may move it if necessary)
But I was wondering...
I've taken all the carpet out of my 89 340, and now want to get the sound deadening out. What's the best way to go about doing this?
Somebody said heat it up and use a scraper to get the most of it off, and then use petrol to remove the glue. Is this a good idea?
The only drawback is I don't want the car to then stink of petrol, as I have my MOT coming up and I dont want him to think there is a leak from the fuel tank...
Cheers!

Lots of heat and elbow grease.
Mot if youve already sploshed petrol around though!

Nah I haven't yet
Also, just to make sure, it won't fail an MOT for having the sound deadening / carpets / centre console removed, right?

Are you doing rust repairs?
For performance, I would not bother, only makes car noisy.
I found cold being better than warm when I did rust repairs on mine, I did use kind of spatula, thin metal used when making tile walls or 'fixing' dent with cement kind of thing, polystrene mass or whatever that is called, anyway with spatula it was rather easy job in rather low temperature, just gently pushing under at level, then after whole spatula is 'in' lift up and huge chunks come off at once, that was passenger and driver floors.

if you can afford it, buy a few cans of dry ice, spray it on and just hammer it off!! the stuff just shatters off apparently

I was just doing this yesterday, use a blowtorch or heatgun, wave it about a few seconds and it'll come off in sheets with just a screwdriver.
