1981 Green 345 in Ely

Some of you may remember the green mk1 345 that I spotted last week in Ely. Well having left a note on the windscreen, the owner rang me this afternoon to say that unfortunately they had been involved in a minor collision yesterday, and both rear light clusters have been smashed! He has been to his local body shop who are apparently able to repair the body damage.

So I have promised him that I will source him some rear light clusters, does anyone have a pair that they can donate to save this beautiful mk1 (I'm not sure how much they're worth):

I'm coming to the 300 national event at Beaulieu this weekend, so if somebody coming to Beaulieu has some to bring, that would work out brilliantly.

I'm pretty sure that any rear lights pre-1986 will fit, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Nick and his wife seem like a lovely couple, and they've owned this car for years having bought it from his wife's uncle. They say they really love the car, and are distraught that something has happened to it after looking after it for so long, so I'd really like to be able to help them as quickly as possible.

Many thanks,

Siôn

Thank you, let me know if you find it. Apparently the off-side one is in the worst state, but I gather that both are needed.

As a (possible temporary) fix then any V300 tail lights will fit. I don't know if you're aware of this? Mark 3 versions are abundant, and will get the guy back on the road. Waiting for a set of mk1/2 rears could take a while!

I have a spare set which I bought from Speedy, but for what I have in mind for my 360, and the frequency for lenses falling off - already happened to me once - I may well be needing them at some stage! Otherwise I would sell them.

Thanks for this, I'll bear that in mind, unless Mark can find some correct ones in his cave...

I've got loads...and I'd be happy to bring a pair to Beaulieu. I do normally ask a tenner each for them, just to help with lock-up rent...but if you think they're deeply impoverished, I'd certainly consider donating them. I also probably have a rear bumper, if they need that...?

I notice it has a mk2 GL / GLS (chrome-topped) front bumper fitted. The original (curved, not pointed...have a look at mine at the weekend!) was probably damaged in a minor bump, and as a one-year-only part, they're very hard to find. It's something I want to find at least one spare of.

cheers

James, that would be brilliant, and £10 each is fine I'm sure. I'll check with them about the rear bumper and I'll let you know if they need it. I'm sure they'll be delighted.

Yes, the incorrect front bumper was one of the first things I noticed too. The grille also has a GL badge, which also probably came from the same donor as the bumper.

Does that mean you're actually bringing a 300 this weekend?!

No problem! If you could let me know about the bumper ASAP, that would be excellent, as I'll be going to collect the car tomorrow night.

Yes, I'm bringing the 1981 343 with the B200'RS' swap... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YfiXIavdV4).

cheers

Hi S10NPH.
I have found a couple of spares but as James is nearer
and is able to deliver in person, that would cut out postage.
£10 quid each is realy cheap considering what price a cluster is on e-bay.
I hope that bloke gets his motor fixed OK.
Cheers Mark.

I'll honour that pricing now...but for the future...do you think it's too cheap, Mark? I've got such a big pile of lights that I tend to get shot of them cheaply when someone wants them...but if that makes life difficult for others, I'll happily re-think. You can usually snag brand new units for £30 each, when they come up, so I figured £10 was about right, but if it's de-valuing what others have, I don't want to cause a problem.

cheers

James
