Challenge accepted.

If you beat 58.1, it'll take you so long to get home, youll have forgotten what you went out for in the first place.

Ok. While you're (forever) waiting for this car to get back on the road, when I get the Pug back in action, I'll see if I can get 58.1 out of the 954cc petrol.

I've already done 55.4mpg on a tank in that.

Thats good going man. And you have the power to weight ratio in your favour. But to equal the load of me and mrs Vnd, youll have to put a few dead bodies/engines in the boot of the 106, to make it a fair fight.

Ha! I cant recall how many driveshafts my Peugeots/Citroens have eaten

miraculously my current daily (Citroen ax forte 1.4i) has been brilliant, 350 quid with a year of test, 6 months tax and 60k on the clock. I've put 8k on it since getting it in Feb and it hasn't needed anything. I've been driving it like I stole it and its returning >40mpg (my 16v gti does similar but quicker :) )

I'd like as a diesel again for the economy, but I'm a child and I get bored of not being able to exceed 5krpm

If you want astronomical economy on a shoestring budget, its hard to ignore an AX derv, they do 60+ mpg with ease

Stick at it dude, I almost never see 309s anymore and its nice to see one getting cared for, rallye steels look awesome too (I have some speed lines I'd swap for them ;) )

Ive got some Goodwood Speedlines awaiting refurb. But cheers for the offer man.
I have only seen one other 309 on the road since I got this one, and it was a sad, hanging example in the corner of a Morrisons car park. I think it was dying. It was certainly crying.
Ive had a 604, a 306, a 205XS, 205jnr etc but when it comes to Pugs, its the rarer the better for me. Couldnt resist the 309. On cool points and economy points alone.

Id never touch an AX derv. I know a couple of lads thats had them, and the fail lists are well documented and painfully long. Id love an AX with a TU3S in it though.

Speeds good if you can afford it. I had to let my 200bhp T4 go as I couldnt afford to feed it.

Admittedly I see a 309 gti regular (its my mates, with a cammed gti6 lump) but other than that I only really see a couple ropey dogs pilotted by dithering old gits.

Is 1 of 30 rare enough for ya, that's how rare my currently daily is :D

Hi mate.
Both cars look great. The neighbours must have been feeling all nostalgic
seeing two of those in the same street
Cheers Mark.

I get the point, but he must have been talking through the Derek Acorah of the day. sm4

Well, it wouldnt have looked as impressive without the quotation marks and famous name now would it?
