new member saying 'hello' also .... i will soon have a 300

Post by thododd » 22 Jul 2012 10:28 pm

Hi, I'm Tom. I'm new to site, been reading a while as an unregistered member but my urges have persuaded me to join and make a push for an old ovlov.

I've been drive old french hatchbacks for a while and as much as I love them I neeeeed something rwd :D I've got a couple Citroen AXs currently (a gti that's off the road and has been for a while, that is being extensively rebuilt. The other is my daily forte, which is much the same but less substantial in every way.... that's enough natter about french tin, but a couple pics won't hurt ;) ) and have had a whole host of PSA motors before that.

I've been yearning for something rwd for a while and having worked with friends on old fords and vauxhalls ive been drawn away from the 'obvious' choices. I really like the Volvo 300s and would love a 3dr (any will do as i can't see it staying as it is for very long) so if you know of any for sale (I'll keep an eye on the offers page) please let me know

Thanks
Tom D :D

Does that mean most the ones round my way are likely to have crash damage?

Welcome - nice pics too, a friend had an AX GT when I first started driving about 8 years ago on Koni suspension (iirc??!) and the same Pug 205 Gti alloys as yours, handled really rather well. Don't think that just cos the 340 is RWD however that you'll immediately be a drift king  , but with a bit of work they can be a load of fun :)

No assumptions at all, I've driven a few rwd cars (and tried to drift some of them) and I'm well aware of how much of a fine art drifting is. I just want something retro, rare and rwd to compliment my nutty gti

I'm not afraid of putting some work in. I converted the gti to 16v, coilovers (not off the shelf items ;) ) and rear disk brakes all on my lonesome. Its also now caged with buckets and the front end is being somewhat space framed to accommodate a blower of some description :D

Hi mate and welcome.
At least you seem to put a lot of work into your cars.
Some blokes buy a 300, drift the shit out of it and send it to
the great graveyard in the sky. As VND says, there are a lot of blokes
on here who know how to do it properly. Good luck.
Cheers Mark.

83 mk3 Capri
67 mk2 cortina
79 mk1 polo

Tis a lovely collection, if the zetec/type 9 sat next to them finds its way into something it'll be pretty special ..... johnny can't make his mind up though

The polo has a 1300 gt engine and all important 'lowered on p slots'. Its was bought on a whim cos the seller wasnt having any luck so johnny offered half what he asking (kind of as a joke) and ended up getting it

Well almost a year on from my original post .... and ive finally managed to (persuade the mrs to let me have another project car and) get an old volvo :D

The car in question will be karl's vario which im picking up at the weekend

I recently scrapped my ax gti after removing everything from it and passing it onto the forte, so the forte is caged, coilover'd, 4 pot hi spec calipers, grp A dampers... and 140bhp 106 gti engine, the engine is prooving to be a pain and Im unable to get it running in the forte at the moment, so Im without a car and relying on the charity of friends.

The vario will become a daily for a while until I get the ax back on the road. Once im happy with the ax I shall treat the volvo to some work :)

More pics of silly french stuff
