Daily 300's?

Ok then, interested to know who's still using one as a daily and at what annual mileage. What's the highest annual mileage anyone's doing? Would be interested to know how you're finding it. (Buying a backup car is cheating ;) :D )

Andy still is. Give me past the next project and (with a huge amount of tongue in cheek) I'll probably sell the corset.

All of mine have been dailys, and only cars. (Though I dont have one atm).
Never did more than 10k in any of them though.
Dont think I even had one a full year.

I'm thinking 15k a year... doable with a low mileage, rustish free example/ (Not the GLT!) This thing has a B200K...

Before I got the corset, I was doing 18k a year. *If* you are prepared to get the car up to scratch before having to rely on it daily, you'd want to have gone over the fuel system (all hoses changed, carb fixed as you know it'll be broke), brake system (MC, cylinders and hoses) and cooling (flushed, check all hoses for knackeredness) I'd say it'd be ok.

In the first 12 months I'd expect to be doing some of the wheel bearings. If the welding is done right, it's only done once.

I run my GLT daily, annual milage of about 25K.

I've had a breif rest from it while i sort a new gearbox + diff etc. driving a corsa but that may end this week with any luck :D

I love having it as my daily, The looks you get, the comments and conversations in car parks (even the negative comments make me smile). Only down side is the huge amount of petrol that needs to be pumped in to keep going. I actually can't think of anything i'd rather daily, really :D

Since 2009 I've had a 360GLT as my daily. I've owned 5. 3 parts and two daily's. my current daily is soon to be parts for my first ever 360. but I'd say an average of 30kmiles p/a in my old girl.

I technically still am dailying the 360, it's just resting

But I was on for about 15k a year. Fuel was fine and I loved every minute of it. It was a 200k and ran fine and started every morning without fail. The only thing I got for it was a new battery.

Don't do daily in any car. I usually have one day off a week

The only way it works for me is rotation. That is, I don't have a fair weather car, they all get used at some time or another on rotation.

The 1.7 340 GL is the nearest I have to a daily, its taxed, tested and has M.O.T. all year. It's kept outside, although under a cover and has been out a couple of times in the snow/salt but not much.

To be honest, it's more of a weekly :)

Mileage runs June to June as it was 1st June when I put the car back on the road.

June 2010 to June 2011.........4807 miles.........(1072 towning a caravan)
June 2011 to June 2012.........3514 miles.........(1837 towing a caravan)
June 2012 to Today..................774 miles...........(369 towing a caravan)

I would use it more but I drive the truck most days from home so no commute to work.

Low mileages but 20% of that is towing which is harder on the car (although maybe not as hard as daily drifting :P ).

Results:

Car purchased 2001 at 123046 miles
Current mileometer reading 140,150 so I've put 17109 miles on it in 10 years (It was off the road for 6 1/2 years).

I did a lot of work before putting the car back on the road so no problems with the rust/common faults so far, as much was already done, see below:
http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... fw#p106102

Faults fixed since using daily.

1. Broken front spring, probably due to towing with the original weak springs..fixed along with new front dampers last year.
2. Handbrake button popped out.
3. The headlamps had a poor connection at the fuse box.
4. New water pump.
5. New rear wheel bearing.
6. New exhaust centre box.
7. Just replaced front headlamps with better ones due to poor reflectors.

Apart form that, one oil change, a new distributer cap and an occasional clean up of the plugs.

21-23 m.p.g. towing, 33-38 m.p.g. normal.

Good cheap old skool motoring fun :P.

I lost more in depreciation alone on Renault Scenic in 3 years than this cars cost to run over the last 3 years.

If I were to do a 50 mile daily commute then I would expect some more problems to come up, but then what car doesn't have problems! I'd rather have a car that keeps on going untill it really can't carry on instead of one that decides it won't go over 30m.p.h., if at all, untill some little yellow lights been turned off!

Rust Rust Rust is the biggest enemy. All else can be replaced...somehow!

Hi all.
My mk1 was a daily up untill last month when the tax ran out. The GLS is now my daily
and will be 30 next year. You do get some strange looks though..
Cheers Mark.

My 340 variomatic is officially a daily driver - even though it isn't used on a daily basis. And then there's my Daf and my motorbike eating some 'daily' miles if I feel like it. If I do 5,000 miles a year in it, it's a lot...
