Large thirsty cat spotted.

Post by volvosneverdie » 23 Dec 2012 10:19 pm

The last thing anyone needs these days is a large engined high spec executive luxobarge.
So, on a whim, I bought a low spec, large engined middle-managment luxobarge. With a slushbox.

85k with a FSH. Rust on the front arches, needs new front pads and disks.
Cheaper than a good B14 and with similar MPgs.

3.2 strainght six, pumping out 25Mpg if youre carefulls. Driftz if you boot it!

Problem 1) Its in Aberdeen. Which is nearly as far up as you can go without getting wet.

Problem 2) Im working flat out untill after Xmas. I need a hero.

Solution to both Problem 1) AND Problem 2) is L1AMNP. Or Awesome Liam, as hes more generally refered to.
After a few phone calls, some internet clicking and some transfering of money that I didnt really have, the train journey north and drive back was arranged (for Liam)
I hope its nice weather. And that the headlights work. And that the brakes work!

Er.......

And so, in the some of the worst rain/floods/fog seen in Northern England and Scotland for a good few years, brave Liam set off on a semi-epic ten hour round trip. The train was late and only ever got later. It deposited him in wet Jockland close to sunset. Oh, and he had to drive back in the dark. With no headlights and very little in the way of brakes.

He made it though, bless him. With no complaint or swearing.

Sick of reading?
Heres some pics then.

My new and much loved cat.

Seen here in its natural habitat. Loitering near a watering hole, taking shelter between two larger beasts, and being fettled by a hi vizzed human.
Neither wet weather nor high winds trouble it greatly.

I love it. More than any other car Ive driven. Its amazing. Not as a "Drivers" car obviously, but the build quality, comfort, sense of wellbeing it instills in me is lovely.

I treated it to a couple of H4s today, as it was night-blind. Now great for night drivings!
New front pads and disc need to go on.

After that I intend to leave it alone.

Then many years of enjoyment......... Hopefully.

Ah, nice road trip car you got, congrats! :)

Shame that our world is in such state that one really has to work a lot to do any decent roadtrips, but certainly does not make car any worse!

How about rust, do you plan to do bit of sanding and get bad spots sprayed?

I guess no vinyls for this one? ;)

No stickers on this one mate, youre absolutley right.
Its too nice in standard shape to mess with it.
The rusty bits will be ignored as long as possible I'm affraid. At least until the summer. All of england is very wet and windy at the moment. So no sanding or spraying in the street for me. :?

I wish it was gas powered dude. But I only paid £500 for it. Even the most basic of conversions would cost me more than that again.
So I'll live with the 25mpg and just roll round like a major boss.

They're brilliant! My mate ryan had one and it just oozes luxury. Feels like you're sitting in a very expensive womb. He used to come down from Sheffield to Bristol every month as well! Nutter.

I've heard the manuals are really really worth getting if you can find one, even mid 30s mpg on the motorway would you believe!

This is true. It really feels like youre being carried round in a concerned mothers womb. Nothing can hurt or bother you in a big jag.

Right people, right time and the wrong location?

Trustworthy folk in North Kilt town. Look where the vendor genuinely left the keys.

Image

Lololol the reg signifies 'dole'. Said jobless bum must be a drug dealer to roll a Jaaaaaag.

Don't forget the amazing map, left by Mr Seller. My favourite part of the day by far. :D

Tis a nice motor. Not what I would personally buy, but I see the attraction. Trying to kill me on unlit A-roads aside. :)
As I said to Arthur, I felt guilty eating me sandwich in it. It's spotless inside.

Lols. Was a whacky adventure man. One to tell the grandkids.

You were right about the disks man. Only really shows up when youre doing a lot of heavy breaking. FIne pootling round town though, or gentle breaking.. (like you said).

New bits on in Jan then. After payday like. Im fookin skinter than a scotsman the noo!
